An IVA is a very serious commitment. To make it work, you need to be completely honest with yourself, the people close to you who it will affect and your IVA company/Insolvency Practioner. You will also need to make sure you fully understand everything about it, and if you don’t, ask as many questions as necessary. The IP will be paid for managing your IVA, so don’t be afraid to get satisfactory answers to all your questions. An IVA is not suitable for everyone. Bankruptcy can be better for some, a DMP for others. This forum is an excellent resource for IVA’s, but as andydavie says, by its nature, you’re bound to read more bad experiences than good.

Tinytori my IVA was rejected but my Husbands was approved so it isn't always straight forward, I'm going BR next week but if it does work out for you which it has with my Husband it can change your life for the better, we can see a future now which is something we couldn't before.
Good luck with your IVA
Rachel

Just realised I said all that earlier! [:)]

With an IVA you ahve to bear in mind it is not a wiping of the slate and start again situation which is how it is often presented it is an agreement between you and your creditors which you are obliged to fulfil its not a get out of jail free card, you are declard insolvent in legal papers presented to a court it is not painless.

I have seen the ads in the papers stating wipe out 75% of your debt wiht an IVA, sounds too good to be true and it is, in an IVA you are expected to pay as much as you cann afford so bear that in mind.

Replying to Allen.F.

I also went with Thomas Charles and found the staff very nice but am afraid my IVA was on the 19th June and was unsuccessful. My proposal seemed bland having read it back after the refusal.

Still someone has to be the 1% guess it was me.
Kindest Regards Lorraine

Hi tinytori,
The first thing to do is ask more questions on here and put some figures together.
My IVA has been not too good because I can never get hold of the IP, this is a must as you need to be able to get a feel for what is ahead.
I have had to do a lot of reading and searching to find the answers.
Good luck

Hi Tinytori,

You can read reviews on IVA firms that have been posted by their clients at www.IVA.com. There are a number of reviews on Freeman Jones.

Good luck with your proposal.

Kind regards,
Terry

Whilst reading topics on here I see alot of people have difficulty getting hold of their IPS, mine is with Accuma, how ever this was set up with Thomas Charles, so after my IVA was set up and I needed to get hold of my IP which after 2 weeks of trying I could not, I rang Thomas Charles and complained to them about accuma and it was causing me alot of stress and for that reason I told Thomas Charles I wanted to go BR, with in an hour my IP got back to me. Also I had a modification request at my IVA creditors meeting which I refused to agree to and told them thAt if they did not accept the IVA I would go BR instead, the resaon I was forcefu
ll with my creditors was because my expenditure took alot of time to work out and was accurate and I wanted the IVA to work and not fail becuase I could not make the payment.

I have learnt 2 things -

1 . If you went bankcrupt you may have to make payments for 3 years but overall your creditors will get less money back, so its in the interest of creditors that you stick with the IVA so be forecefull if you know you are right.

2 - If you go bankcrupt your IP losses their future fees from them so be forcefull.

An IVA is their to work for you, your IP And your creditors
