Last year we paid £300 for the year, we have just had the renewal through and it is now £696, no way can we afford that, this is with Kwik fit, we haven't even had a claim over the year.

Fortunately we do have £300 saved (as we paid outright last year) so have done a quick comparison on the comparison sites, I'm a bit annoyed that as a brand new customer with kwik fit the premium is coming out at £315, so much for loyalty eh? but we can get it for £297, I was hoping to pay monthly as we have 3 tyres to get and was going to use some of the £300 for that, but we will just have to pay in full again and eat beans for the rest of the month

Ouch!!! That's a big hike!!!!

Hopefully you can get a decent monthly payment quote elsewhere.

I know, I was a bit shocked Jan to be honest, I can't see us being able to pay monthly as a new customer elsewhere though that's the problem, so it looks like we will just have to bite the bullet and put off getting tyres until the end of Feb and pay in full again as a new customer with another insurer. Fortunately, hubby only has a few more days at work then he has 3 weeks off so won't need to use the car until the end of the month anyway.

It's only a flippin VW passat estate (56 plate), hubby used to have a mitsubishi EVO a few years ago (which cost us a bomb but that's another story) and even the insurance on that was only £500 a month

Try Liverpool Victoria,I got mine down from £54 a month [Norwich Union] to £30.50 with them on a Fiat Punto Grande
Last monthly payment made 3 June 2013 after 6 long years. CC issued 21 August 2013, but, er, lost in the post. Finally got it 17 September.

LV are coming up the cheapest at £297 for the year, but when I read the terms and conditions, I get the impression we won't be allowed to pay monthly because of the IVA? but if we can't so be it, we will just pay in full

I'm with Liverpool Victoria at the minute but runs out in March so be interesting to see how much it's increased. I pay monthly with them Lem. Do try and ask for monthly payments.
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

I'm almost certain that they increase the premium for people in IVA's for some reason, some even pricing themselves out the market, e.g. ex-creditor HSBC on a comparisson site quoted me over £4K!!!! Getting it monthly was not possible, probably because of the IVA and had to pay the full amount at renewal.

I've found LV to be reasonable in my case, still close on £800 at the moment and probably down to the area I live in too.

Thing is though Matrix, we went with Kwik fit before we went into the IVA so the renewal has come through and they haven't redone the credit check so they have no idea we are in an IVA, I don't think it's that, I know premiums have gone up over the last year but on top of the that the law has changed now so that even if you have a car off the road you have to have it insured so I think the insurers are cashing in on it so to speak, even so an over 100% increase is just having a laugh really.

Lesley, we will go with LV and try for the monthly premiums first I think, then if they say no will just pay the full fee

LV won't offer us monthly payments as we have failed the credit check, I'm a bit annoyed that they have done a credit check when we have only asked for a quote for insurance for the year through money supermarket and not even agreed to go ahead with it!

When I called LV up to try and get a better price to the comparisson site at renewal time last year they said they would perform a credit search, however on checking my file no such search, or even ID search, appeared.

Was with them the year before though so probably knew me from then.
