Just got home from work suffering with horrendos cold - felt like snoozing the afternoon away when my mobile rang -Halifax On-Line banking service - apparently they wanted to check to see if I was in the UKor in Nigeria currently !!!!! Somebody has tried to access my on-line account from Nigeria this afternoon - it was automatically signalled at the Halifax security team and put a stop on my account for on-line transactions etc etc.

Now I have the hassle of changing all my on-line log int details to everything as I use the same for most things!

Still - they can attempt to withdraw loads if they sowish - grand sum of £43 and NO overdraft available! Serves them right for picking on me!!!

I have a feeling who it might be too! My ex landlord has been repossessed and the bank have not changed my address so my statements have been going their - he is Nigerian and I know he was angry when we left before the end of the tenancy as we could not take the stress of the repossession and baliff's knocking etc etc - might be totally wrong - just seems to be a bit of a co-incidence!

Sorry to hear you've had that problem and hope you get it sortedwithout too much hassle. It is odd the coincidence you mention - there are always warnings going round about these sorts of scams.
That's one positive about being in an IVA for me - anyone who wants to steal my identity/bank contents and leave me theirs is welcome as there is nothing left to take!!!
Hope you cold is bettertoday,
Hugs,

I get loads of phishing emails on one of my other email accounts, mostly for banks I don't have accounts with.

I'd love them to try and get money out of me. All I do with them is forward them to the appropriate banks security and let them sort it out.

Wonder if your landlord was trying the old 'Nigerian Scam'?

I get loads of phishing emails too.

I've had them call, give me all my details and ask me to confirm I'm in possession of the card by giving the 3 numbers on the back.

It's a total scam call, but it was shocking how they had all my other details too. I blame the Insolvency Register in a way for giving away all my personal details

I've never had any calls, but it does make you wonder how they get all the details. I mean they can't get those through the insolvency register, only your name and address. I'm ex directory, so they're not likely to be able to get the number.

But of course for everyone of us who see through these calls, letters and emails, there are half a dozen who fall for it, and similar scams.

It doesn't seem to matter how many times people are told that banks will not ask for their details over the phone, or in an email, they still give them.

I imagine they are part of the 'it'll never happen to me' brigade.
