I still have my Barclays account and they were one of my creditors. Maybe that because they weren't one of hubbys and it's a joing account they haven't bothered to close it.

I keep it going with the odd pound or two.

Just going back to having savings accounts in such as Skipton building society, it is less tempting to dip into them!
As your only access is with a pass book - so you have to go into the branch to with draw money out. You can set up usual standing orders etc to pay money in, to save you having to go into the branch.
Final IVA payment made in April 2013, never ever thought we could do it or get through it but we did! X

I don't think we have one of those near us at all.

I will let you know the outcome Bendy.

Jan, if the Halifax account survives the IVA I will go back to them I think ( as I have been with them for 25 years and we have always "got on"). In the meanntime I will just keep moving small amounts around with it and see if they catch on.

That's why I'm keeping the Barclays one open. The Nationwide one is good now that we have a proper debit card but I prefer Barclays!

Ive had a savings account with a building society since I was 21 & dont see the point in changing it.
Plus if I really want to save the money I put it in there, as I find my savings account attached to my current account with Lloyds, if I put funds in there, its alot more tempting.
But this is just how it works for me, the temptation still has to be made difficult!

I should have opened a savings account at the same time I opened the cashminder with Coop. Never mind. I know someone who works at one of the branches in another town so wouldn't feel comfortable appealing in case she found our about my IVA status. I know the chance if that is probably slim but still. She works at the gym where I have a standing order and if wad only when I went in to ask for a new standing order form and explain I had changed banks that she enquired where I had opened my new account and when I said she said she worked at one of the local branches. Not sure how senior she is. She is a friend of the gym owner and helps them out running the reception.

It doesn't seem fait though - my account has been open with them for nearly 3 month now and its been run perfectly.

I want a savings account with easy access as I'm still learning to budget so try to put the money in for things I should be saving for such as car tax and car maintenance and haircuts, emergencies etc at the beginning of the month but then may need to dip into the money at a later date. So another cashminder would be suitable.

Thanx for all the advice.

I have just heard back from David Cutter, Group CEO of Skipton. He says:

Thank you for your e-mail. We do not carry out a credit search where an individual is opening a savings account with us. The IVA should not
therefore be an issue.

Indeed, if you visit your nearest branch with the appropriate identification documents for yourself and your son there should be no problem in opening an account.

Thank you for considering Skipton.
