Glad it went well Brassic. Just one thing - I think you're talking about about an IPA, not a BRU!

The OR reduced my holiday allowance from £50 to £20 but I'm a bit jealous you were allowed £20 for hairdressing - I've got short hair that needs cutting every 4 or 5 weeks and I wish the OR could tell me where to get it cut for a tenner!

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is the present - a gift to make the most of.

I think it depends if your examiner is male or female Skippy! I gather they do have a certain element of discretion as to what is acceptable and what is not!

just to add they do just come and take your car, its nothing bad, if they say you can't have it they are there within 2 days (mine was the next day) and take it thats what happened to me, and at the time they didn't even give me the buy back option it was only coz i mentioned it, but then again the or didn't give me the option of a car was told to get the bus, hubby was allowed to keep his because of his hours and good job mum and dad bought mine back as hubbies off road unsure if it will be repairable so we are down to 1 car and struggling big time, they don't send the heavies in just looks like they are taking it for repair but it is a hard day when they come to take it if you know you can't buy it back.

BRU? BRO? IPA? Thanks Skippy but whatever the term is - I can't afford it!! £531 surplus - I wish!!! But as he said I just have to send in my payslips and it should be amended to reflect my true income. My OR is male by the way, but he used to have hamsters that also multiplied so I think he sympathised and allowed me the £20 for pet care!! Regarding my car, the OR agreed that I needed a car for my work as I work shifts and he asked me in the interview if I would be interested in getting someone to buy back my car and I said yes. However he has just contacted me and told me my valuation was about right at £6500, but he's only allowing me £2000 for a car (I thought it would be around £3500). So if I want to keep it I have to come up with £4500, but my friend can only lend me around £3000 maybe £3500, do you think that the OR would accept this offer? Or will he want the full £4500. I know he has to get as much money as he can for the creditors but if I'm forced to give up this car then I'm back to square one trying to find a reliable car for £2k, about 2K of my debt was spent on repairs for my old car, hire cars and taxis(because my old car was a nightmare and I was frequently late for work, it used to cost a fortune to run, and if I'm late twice in 3 months I face disciplinary action!)

Sorry Brassic!

I would make the offer to the OR, as don't forget they have to take into account selling costs.

Hi Brassiclintus,

I was a bit confused about the car allowance, but I think the OR said they allow 2k allowance to be paid back to you if they sell your car however the car really needs to be worth around the 3k mark for this to happen due to the costs involved so at a guess it must cost them going on 1k to sell. Not sure though

Brassic

If it helps - give me a call in the office to discuss this. I have a new Manager who I recruited from the OR's office recently, and she may be able to assist you with some suggestions as to sorting this out. You might want to pop in and have a chat with her.

Worth a try!

Some interesting comments there about cars and IPAs!!!

We are still waiting to hear from the OR. Interestingly, was it Scaredkez?, got no IPA as only had surplus of about £50, we have a surplus of around £20 and the OR is trying to get an IPA set up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not sure if we will be allowed one car yet, we really do need one, I don’t want husband to give his job up, he’s been there 20 years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Another point too: hubby is adamant that the OR told him that his tax code will be NIL for 12 months from now, I said I am sure its only till the end of the tax year, but hes says this is what the OR told him!

Also we have to continue paying back overpayment of Tax Credits at 50 per month, this was overpayment from 2004/2005. The man at CAB said he has looked this up and it should be written off in these circumstances????

I hate the waiting and worrying, why can’t they tell you straight away???????????

Maybe each case is individual and with some geographic variables.

Jane I've just had another look at the expenditure that you sent to the OR and for what it's worth I agree with Melanie that I don't think that there will be much adjustment from the OR. The only thing I'm not sure about is the cat litter (the OR may say that it should come out of your food and grocery allowance) and pet insurance (I've heard this isn't always allowed).

The OR wants your husband to work, so I'm sure you will be allowed to keep a car. The criteria for keeping a car is needing one for your work, not just for your convenience, so from what you've said it sounds as though your husband has a case for keeping one.

The nil tax code lasts until the end of the current tax year, unless you change jobs during that year in which case it will revert to normal. I never received an NT code as I went BR on 29th March and it was too close to the end of that tax year and wasn't set up in time.

I'm sorry, I don't know about the tax credits.

What I would say is there is no point in worrying (easy for me to say I know!) as it is obviously making you ill. I'm sure the OR will be reasonable, and if not, ask to speak to someone further up the food chain. At the end of the day material things don't matter - what does matter is your family and your health.

Hi Jane
I understand your concern and how frustrating it is that they are making you wait so long, I can only say that my OR assistant (wasn't the real OR that is yet to come) said that they give you a nil tax code from wherever you are in teh year and it only runs from that date to April of next year - so in september this year to April of next. She also said that they only look at paying back IPA if your surplus income is over a 100 and I am sure that this is also on the insolvency guidelines as for the car I don't know as I haven't got a car hope that helps although nothing will I guess until you find out for sure take care x
