Sorry to hear about the car but how about using the first 200 of holiday allowance to get a real old banger with tax and mot and taking a camping holiday the first year. It may not be ultra reliable, but at least you will be able to get to where you need to be.

If they want you to use public transport, the allowance for public transport should more than cover the insurance and car repairs, just watch your petrol.
