Anyone watch 'The Curse of Steptoe' on BBC4 tonight?.
For those of us on here of a (cough cough) 'certain'
age, Steptoe was must see viewing.
This drama-doc was rather sad in a way, both were tortured
souls, with complicated lives.
I kind of wish i hadn't watched it, it shatters another memory
of younger happier days when you realise they were both
plummy voiced thespian actor luvvies who came to hate each other.

My Dad used to love that, along with Alf Garnett and Love Thy Neighbour!

All old favourites of mine also, would never get made now though, just imagine the outcry.
I felt the same when i saw the drama-doc about Kenneth Williams, he again came to hate his co stars in the carry-ons.
Maybe some things are better left unwatched.

Deep down you know that John Thaw would never have said,"Get your trousers on, you're nicked"

But don't you just love the Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes series as well - they really take me back to my youth, I am afraid to say, and are so authentic.

BTW - you haven't made any scurrillous comments about the boys great victory on Saturday!! Was Mrs Torch celebrating the Grand Slam as well?

I meant to tape it but forgot, it was always common knowledge when I grew up that they couldn't stand each other.
Still my favourite comedy when I was young though. Hope they repeat it.

I have to admit, i haven't watched much of either of those, i couldn't grasp the plot in life on mars, but i was i police officer in that era, and met many gene hunts.!.

A stunning victory by the taffies, Mrs Torch was over the moon, to coin a phrase.

I forgot it was on as I was watching the glorious Reds beat Bolton! I love Steptoe and Son, Love Thy Neighbour, Rising Damp and Alf Garnett, although I would like to say that I'm far too young to remember them first time round!

I watched it, I remember it being on in my house, I was scared of the skeleton they had in the room. Anyway I was poorly sick yesterday and was in bed most of the day, so I watched it. I loved life on mars too.

I love watching On the Buses, always makes me laugh but my daughter of 14 just doesn't see what is funny.

Just thinking about Olive saying "Shall I take my curlers out Arthur?" has me rolling about the floor and howling with laughter!!

For those of you too young to remember, you don't know what you missed.

I think they call it a tenuous link, but my uncle was in the RAF with Jack Smethurst from Love Thy Neighbour.

My husband used to babysit Pete Doherty (the drug addict) as his father is one of his closest friends from the Army. He says he was an adorable three year old!
