Hi again

Most of us I think, I did, I opened another account, just went into the branch and was honest about things, they let me have a basic account. I was terrified and almost cried to be honest but it had to be done and I just did it. I moved all my DD's over as well as my income and breathed a huge sigh of relief.

It is a scary time youre going through right now but it will get better, I promise. You will feel strong again.

Abbey, Co-Op and Halifax all are ok with people in IVA's - open the account in the branch face to face and you get a better service.

Yorkshire Bank also have an account for people in IVA
Sharing from experiences of dealing with debt

There is a solution for everyone .... Just need to stay positive !

Look at my blog "All I wanted was a baby"

PS. Make sure your new account isnt one or associated with one of your creditors and avoid HSBC/First direct. They dont seem to like IVA's.

Good luck.

Someone recommended the Yorkshire Bank today, who opened an account with little bother and no credit checking, so that may well be an option worth pursuing.

I thought that they were part of the National Bank of Australia - but it is hard to keep up when they keep swapping ownership around!

Thanks for the support - I do appreciate the comments.

Hi Fergi

Its quite normal to feel as you do right now and most of us have experienced it. Once you take a few more steps you will feel better. I remember feeling sad that I had to leave the bank I had been with for around 25 years, its a transition I think that feels like its the end but in fact its the begining. This debt thing is like a bad smell in your life, is choking you and it leaves you in a thick cloud of shame, guilt and dispair. You are not going to feel on top of the world right now, just accept that, but if you keep moving forward, taking little steps at a time you will begin to believe, I can do this... rather than I dont really want to move anywhere but where I am right now is paralysing. This cloud has been there for a while and deep down you know that, I know I did but I just tried to outrun it. Not only does it engulf you but it gets you when youre still out of breath and knackered from all the running. What youre doing now will take this away. Its time to forgive yourself, whats done is done. You fell down the same hole as most of us here, its so easy to do and its a scary place to be all by yourself. We can reach out as we have been where you are, we know how horrible youre feeling, how sad you are about the bank you are leaving and how scared you are feeling about being judged. So take the rope we are all holding and let us pull you up, out of that place, youre not a failure unless you give up.
