Sounds like he needs to get the union involved again. Anyway, I can't promise anything but I'll see if I can find some info for you. The company I work for has a forum for members and these questions are asked all of the time..it's an HR Institute.

thanks leese that would be great. we have no problem in paying it back , but would could do minimal payments til next year , then we will have competed year six and will be in a better position to pay it back quicker . havent got this far to become finacially unstable again . to add to our problems our 4 yr old boxer dog spontaneously dislocated her hip 2 days ago , took her to vets and couldnt find anything , then she started screaming .... never heard a dog scram before and it was awful , had to get the vet to the house where they sedated her on kitchen floor and took back to surgery , xrays showed the hip was out , apparantly popping in and out , shes hobbling on 3 legs , on 3 lots of pain killers . seeing orthopaedic vet monday who is going tooperate same day although i dont know what procedure yet . the vet recptionist whs is lovly advised me the cost of surgery would be £1200-1500 !!! the bill so far is £350 . thank god for insurance !!!! i paid my £60 excss today , beans on toast for rest of week til payday !!! and my best friend died last weekend , coroner released her body and her funeral tomorrow . sometimes these things area real rality check and eerything else is insignificant . then im stressed as in a mentor to a student nurse and im going to have to fail her !!! having really crap week .... at least we got sunshine for the weekend !!! thx everyone for your replies

How come 51,000 NHS staff who got pension overpayments were not asked to pay the money back yet current staff who were overpaid are expected to return the extra cash??? Work out what you can afford to pay as payroll/HR must in cases of financial hardship try to come to a reasonable arrangement before resorting to courts etc.
I too work for the NHS,and can safely say that payroll are incompetant eejits!!!

Put your offer in writing, stating reasons why and it should be accepted.
As long as you're prepared to repay the money, your employer cannot put you under undue hardship.
