Hi all, I havent been on here for ages, but I am after some advice for a friend. She is in debt and her co-habiting partner refuses to help with this. If she was to opt for an IVA would her partners income be taken into consideration too?

With mine, we have a joint IVA that has combined both our debts, but with this it is only one persons debt.

Hope you can help.

Thanks
Its now time to start living and to make some some wonderful memories!

Hi, nice to see you back.

Her partners income would be taken into account to do with living expenses. He wouldn't contribute to the IVA but obviously the amount he contributes to the living expenses would mean that she could possible pay more to an IVA.

I recommend that she speaks to an IP and discusses it with them.

Hi SkintSabins - as Jan says, the partner would be expected to contribute to household expenses to free up some of your friends money to pay into the IVA, and income levels are taken into account when working out the share of the household expenses. With mine, I earn approx 3 times what my partner did, so the household expenses were apportioned accordingly, so I was allocated 75%, my partner 25% of them when it came to working out how much I could pay into the IVA.
