Hi,
I entered into a IVA with payplan 9 months ago and so far have had no problems at all with them ,I found them very helpful, always available on the phone and instant replies to any emails that I sent them.
As they are a 'major' player in debt matters so they are not likely to give you bad advice or go 'awol' when you need them.
As I said, I have only been with them 9 months but I have had no problems at all.

As far as I know, Payplan are supported/financed by creditors so they tend to be quite strict on allowances etc.
It's nice to be back......

There are really two options to consider when selecting a DMP company:

1 - "Fee Free" (like Payplan or CCCS)- These companies or organisations are able to offer debt management plans free of charge to their clients as they receive a kick-back from the creditors on the money that they collect. This causes some people to question whether they in reality act for you or your creditors. If you get great prompt service and a DMP set at a realistic level of contribution then not paying a fee seems a decent option.

2 - Fee Charging DMP companies - These companies may retain part of the monthly payment made on an ongoing basis in return for acting for you in setting up an effective DMP. There are a mixture of good and bad firms out there and it pays to choose carefully.

The most important thing is that the correct balance is found between paying creditors as fast as possible while ensuring that the payment amount is sustainable in the long-term. If either part of this isn't in place it will not work out very well for anyone over time.

I would suggest that you try a fee paying and a non-fee paying company to compare the level of service and also the amounts they say you will have to pay. You may well be startled at how much the non-fee paying company say you can afford and, whilst this may result in a quicker repayment period, it is not worth living on a breadline for the next few years.

I can genuinely recommend Andrew's company above, who have carefully looked after a number of my own clients over the last year, and I have received very positive feedback.

I have a DMP with payplan.
I have not had any problems with them. I did have some creditors continue to harrass me but I dealt with them myself.
My only real complaint is that they never discussed any options with me. Nor did they advise me of any consequenses.
I have learned more on this forum.
I didn't know that creditors could still take me to court and I certainly didn't know that creditors could get a charge put on my home even though the loans were unsecured.
Touch wood, none of these things have happened yet but I do think I should have been prewarned that it is a possibility in a DMP.

It's very important that the pros and cons of any debt solution are explained upfront to anyone considering their options.

What a shame that in so many instances reported on this forum this seems not to happen.

I spoke to Payplan a while ago and I have to say it has put me off trying to sort things out and speak to other companies. Then I found this forum and am just plucking up the courage to sort thngs out properly. Payplan were recommended to me by my union as the saviour to all problems - the person that found me was judgemental and unsympathetic - yes I know I am in debt but I have hardly been living the life of riley - just existing and bringing up children. She didn' know my circumstances and how ill my husband and I had been nor did she want to. Also the amounts and things shesaid I could allow for were unrealistic leaving a big payment for creditors which was unreaslistic and would have meant years of hard labour. Sorry to be so negative but it really ws a bad experience and has put me off. My situation is dire now a I really must get it sorted.

Hi Elizabeth,
If I were you I would contact someone from this forum.
If you are seeking a DMP then look no further than the posting prior to your own.
Andrew Graveson from Brightoak seems so very nice and understanding and will give you the correct advice.
If you want an IVA then I suggest you contact Melanie Giles whose posting is prior to yours also.
She certainly knows what she is talking about re IVA's and has rave reports on this forum from her own clients.

Hi there ukchris and welcome to the forum

Are you in a DMP now and how much are you paying per month? Are you already a property owner? How much do you owe to creditors in total?
