Why dont companies have to point out that they arent in fact Ip's and just go betweens??

We went with Thomas Charles and had to make 2 payments. We were so desperate and naive we just paid up. They did state if the IVA failed the monies would be reimbursed but not if we pulled out. We were then passed us onto Accuma.

TC were absolutely awful for us - if you can pull out, please do and use a different company.

iIdid have someone approach me and he did say that after he prepared the work it was passed onto an IP as he wasn't registered to deal with the IVA itself. And he wanted £2500 up front, which I wouldn't get back if it wasn't successful!

My advice would be never to pay for any IVA advice up front. If you do use an intermediary who advises you, and the intermediary passes you on to an IVA company once satisfied you are quslified, then the only remuneration the intermediary should receive is a payment for work carried out for the IP. That will happen only if you proceed with that IP. To do that you must be satisfied that you are happy with your proposal and comfortable working with the IP. If you then get accepted at meeting stage and make your payments (for the first time at this stage), then the intermediary will get paid for his work. This is fair as he has assisted, and it will come out of the fees that the IP would be able to take under the terms of the arrangement, and so it will cost you nothing in addition.

Hello to everyone on the site by the way. You'll see alot if me if I can find a way to get access to all posts.

Same here Steve ... good to see some sound, practical and sensitive advice being offered.

Piston Broke ... hang on in there ... take a step back, there is no hurry to make what could well be a life changing decision for you. What does your intuition say you should do?
