Well said Melanie. You know how I feel about Harry and I can't bear the thought that I wouldn't be able to pay for any vet fees because I'd cancelled his insurance.
It's due for renewal soon and we can't change as he's been to the vet a couple of times so I've told Dave that if it goes up too much I'm cancelling the fridge freezer insurance to pay for it - Harry is much more important!
We have insurance for the washing machine but the cooker is too old for it now. We have insurance for the laptop as well and have claimed as it went pear shaped a few months ago.
For those people who are either on benefits or receive a reduction in council tax I wouldnt advocate pet insurance at all. Instead use the local PDSA (if there is one local to you). They provide pet care and ask only for a donation towards their upkeep. My mother in law got a puppy and then found it needed a major operation. She was able to have the op done successfully by PDSA and donated what she could afford. She was full of praise for the vets there.
Like I said, it will only be suitable for some people, but could work out cheaper in the long run than monthly premiums and excesses.
I pay monthly for my dog insurance, and I have changed companies whilst in my IVA without a problem.
I`m with a company called Animal Friends and I got their quote via a comparison site.
I pay just under £19 a month to cover my 7 year old chocolate lab, and the cover includes lifetime treatment.
