I didn't know me and my partner was in finanical difficulty until Feb 2012. It all came to light when my partner left me a note explaining that we were behind on our mortgage and it was going to court at the end of Feb. He had gone AWOL. My partners parents paid off our overdue amount of the mortgage then it came to light what a mess we were in.
My partner was coming home every dinner time from work and hiding the post in his car boot (unopened). To cut a long story short we went to citizens advice who told us about Payplan. One phone call to them was all it took to get us on our way to our IVA.
I knew that an IVA would be the best way forward because my partner had so many pay day loans and it would stop all the interest pilling up!
We got approved for our IVA on the 17th May. It was sickening awaiting the phonecall. So pleased it's finialised as we can now look to the future. It's been a whirlwind few months!

Daisy -welcome to the forum - IVA can be really hard at times - but it does offer hope and a "light at the end of a tunnel" - both are difficult to visualise when your up to your neck in do-do :-)

Welcome Daisy (and partner). I hope he now knows its best to talk about these things ..... far better now that it's all out in the open and being dealt with.

We have all been guilty of playing ostrich at some point, always waiting for that miraculous windfall from Lord Knows Where, which never comes .....

However, all in the past, now the march toward the future begins :)
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.
IVA Completed 23rd July 2013 .... C.C. 10th January 2014

Hello Daisy and congratulations on your IVA being approved.

I know exactly what you went through as my wife hid everything from me and led me to believe that we were ok. My health is not the best anyway so when I did find out (phone call from a creditor) it made me really ill.

After that we entered into our IVA and have just completed four years. We have no secrets now and are much closer.

We're with Payplan as well and have found them to be ok so far.

I know you must have been angry when you first found out about the debt from your Partner, but it was a brave thing for him to do. I am single and still can't and don't want to tell friend sand family about my debt. Half of me thinks I don't want them to worry and the other half thinks it's my problem and mine only to sort out x
Have no regrets, the future is ours!

Our daughter and son in law and my two kids know about it. Wife's work knows about it and don't have a problem. Even our son in laws parents know (so we're told!)

Will never tell Jan's parents about it though - it would finish them off.

My partner used to tell me my credit cards etc were paid etc and they were not. It was a huge step for him to tell me and the lenghts he went to to make sure I would not find out were extraordinary. His parents have been very supportive. In fact, our post has been redirected to their house so nothing can get 'lost'.

My wife used to hide much of our debt from me and it definitely led to problems between us, since we both started to be honest our relationship has improved 10 fold ..... hope it has a similar affect on you two.

Congratulations on the IVA being approved, sounds strange to congratulate someone on being made insolvent but it really is a relief and a new start.

Good luck
The hardest part is telling a stranger about your problems ...... it's also the most important!

Completion Certificate Received! :D

Dunkynuts - my family do not know, but now I'm in an IVA I think. There is nothing to say...but I know if I need support then I have my partners parents and I'm thankful for that!
