hi all

oh my god, had first phone call today,was expecting them but went to pieces and my hubby had to deal with it and they were actually ok.
what am i going to be like when the nasty ones start. felt sick all day

Abby, I know exactly how you feel. I answer most of them now, but I had one nasty one and it has put me off. You don't have to answer the calls, it won't make any difference to the outcome of your IVA. Stay strong. X

i was wondering if i should send all creditors letters telling the situation and who we have dealing with the iva. would appreciate any suggestions.x

Abby, what I did was use the "template letters" from this site (on the left) and I sent a letter to every one of my creditors advising them what was going on. Then, when I instructed an IP, my IP also sent letters to advise them all of the IVA. It's up to you, if it makes you feel better, then send them. However, at the end of the day, it's not really going to make any difference and it might be better just leaving it to your IP. It's a scary time, but you WILL make it through, we'll all make sure of that![:)] X

Hi Abby,
We were in your situation a month ago waiting for the phone call to start, We did send the letters from the IP and to date we have had the creditors saying that they had recieved the letters. Also we some of one of my creditors SKY card I have not heard from which surprises me because when I was a day late with the payment they were straight on the phone. Our calls I must say have not been bad at all like you was dreading the first one, but must admit we do answer them it makes us feel a little better. (Crazy I know) keep smiling it a start to a new begining.

I know its not everyone's answer Abbi ... but I changed my phone number. Took 24 hours and cost nowt. so now I don't get any more nasty phone calls. Mind you I don't get any phone calls now [:D][:D]

Sorry Abby, Maxie has just reminded me, I also sent the letter my IP sent me to all my creditors, so they got one from me before, one from me during and one from the IP.

They will STILL phone and write![:(] X

I felt just the same at first, We sent all our Creditors a letter explaining our predicament but it hasn't made much difference, still get the calls and letters. sometimes, I'll answer the phone and other times ignore it, I've even answered a few times and no-one's been on the other end ( I don't mind those[:D]).

Although it's a pain, you do get used to it, [:)]

You should not have to deal with any of these calls if you don't want to.

If you have told them by letter to contact your IP with regards to your debts then just ignore their calls. Get caller id on your phone and just ignore the calls from numbers you don't recognise. You can also ensure they don't hide the number by rejecting those calls as well if you contact BT.

Or change your number if you can

Forward on any letters to your IP.

I sympathise Abby - the phone calls are not nice but I just kept telling myself that I would keep telling them the story and that I could only offer token payments and that ultimately if anyone was nasty I would simply tell them politely that I was ending the call and then hang up!

I had one who just kept repeating themselves over and over in the same call saying that they could not accept token payments so in the end I just said "we can stay on this call all day if you want but it won't make any money appear in my bank account!" They ended the call then!

Just always remember - they are just call centre and can't hurt you - I just kept being polite, telling them the same thing over and over again (financial difficulties, offer token payments, we are seeking professional advice etc) and then on the days when it seemed too much I unplugged the phone - very very liberating!!!

I would not even offer token payments, better off putting that money aside as a contingency fund. 5 years is a long time and any spare cash you can put aside now waiting for the IVA to go through will help.

I feel sure that your IP will already have written to your creditors Abby, but it does no harm to reinforce the fact that you are going to be proposing an IVA by writing to them directly.

After the the first phone call that generated into an argument I used caller display and didn't answer any calls ... it made no difference to my successful IVA and subsequent F & F being accepted ... life's too short.
