Hi All

I received a call from the Coop yesterday whilst at work. I told them I couldn't speak freely at work and they gave me a number to call them back. It was an 0845 number. I don't know about anyone else but I hate calling these numbers. I have a mobile contract with inclusive minutes and a BT landline with free evening and weekend calls but neither cater for 0845 numbers. I was on hold for over 10 minutes from my mobile as I was paranoid that they would keep calling work if I didn't contact them as promised.

You would think that departments dealing with debt recovery might acknowledge that people needing to contact them might not have the money to incur additional phone charges and therefore have a normal uk landline number for us to contact them on.

just my gripe for the day

Dave
Regards

Dave

I agree, I told them I couldn't ring back as I couldn't afford the phone calls [(#)]

Hi
My particular pain at the moment are John Lewis Financial services - who I owe the least to about £600 - who phone everyday wanting a payment. I repeat the same daily that I am proposing an IVA and the paperwork will be with them shortly give them all the information and add I have sent them all this in writing to which they inform me that my IVA will have more chance of going through if I make a payment which is not true. Tonight they said they would put the account on hold until a week on Monday and I shouldn't get any calls till after then Yeah right!!

Nice one kezza.

Bear there are some websites now which specialise in giving people the 'real' alternative to 0845 numbers, I don't know specifics but you might try googling for one. Sometimes you can even get an 0800 alternative.

Sympathies sps, your post remined me that John Lewis plc tried to make be bankrupt a few years back. Which considering they promote themselves as an 'ethical' business is quite the larff really. They went through a bit of a makeover a few years ago and I thought they had gone soft, but maybe not as soft as I thought.

When I come across this in my day job I usually advise people just to change their phone number.

-Best

Hi go_4_broke

Are you able to share some of your story with the rest of us here. At some point most of us have discussed our circumstances and a couple of personal details and I've noticed that within a week you are already up to nearly 60 posts and not given too much away about yourself. I'm not prying as such but interested to hear your story. You seem to have lots of knowledge about the whole debt issue.

Please feel free to ignore this request

Dave

No worries Dave, I've had to go find it myself to remind me what I said !

As I said more to follow soon.

As you guess I have some time on my hands at the moment but that isn't going to last unfortunately, or fortunately depending on how you look at it ! (Lol also)

I'm surprised there aren't more forums like this around, this is the only one I've come across despite debt being quite the topic of the moment. Although in fairness I've not looked that hard.
