I am just at the stage of waiting for my IVA proposal to be drafted by Melanies team.
Have been really worried about making contact with creditors and although I had written to them have been avoiding telephone contact, However after 12 missed calls last night from Barclays who I had banked with for many years but also were my biggest creditor I decided to bite the bullet and give them a call - they were really positive with me I explained my circumstances and that I was in the process of trying to set up an IVA and she advised she would put my account on hold for the next 30 days whilst my proposal was being drafted did not attempt to ask me for any payments and also advised me not to put any money in their banks as this would be taken to cover my arrears obviously I now have new accounts and I knew they would do this but was impressed with how she went out of her way to offer advice - she even wished me well with my debt solution... this has made me feel so much better and I am ready now to make phone contact with my other creditors. Just thought I would share this with others at the same stage incase you too are scared of the calls.
Louise.

Yes I was quite shocked Niobe - as I read lots of forum posts saying Barclays are very agressive with insisting you make a payment but there was non of that.. so hopefully I will be well on the way to having everything in place in the next 30 days.. have to say I am not so confident with calling Barclaycard but I will make that Mondays mission!!!

I think that yo were lucky to get through to Barclays and not their collection agents, Mercers --- once a case is passed to them they can be relentless. However the same applies to the bullies as to the less aggressive creditors -- be polite and be firm, give them your IP's details and don't get into any conversation.

Barclays bank have been really good with our iva,my husband owed money on his overdraft and although he had to open a new bank account elsewhere they allowed him to keep his business account and didn't offset.
My account with them they have allowed me to keep along with my chequebook and visa card.
Barclaycard were good also. Our only problem has been with co-op,they still send letters advising us of the serious consequences of when they pass our details on to their solicitors.
Our iva was accepted last November.
Don't worry,it will all come right in the end!!
Natwest were equally as nice to me this week when I contacted them explaining my situation too. It took me ages to pluck up the courage to call them, afterwards it was a big relief!
Maybe the banks have turned a corner? Realising at last that maybe they should have applied for IVA's instead of taking 50 billion of tax payers money to sort there debt out? only a thought
How refreshing to read the post from harrysmummy. Sometimes when I read the posts on this forum, it is full of just, moaning and complaining about things that dont go our way, or bad customer service, discrepancies with various things etc etc. Sure it is part of what this forum is for.
But harrysmummy's post has made me think, yes, there are some decent, respectful, understanding people in the banking industry. IT'S JUST GETTING THROUGH TO ONE THATS THE PROBLEM!
Completed IVA - August 2012 pheeeeeeeeeew
Only my opinion - Nothing More Nothing Less
Hi ive just posted all my docs to mels team and one of my creditors is barclays along with many others, im shocked as i started missing payments last month and have not received one phone call yet although i did write to them all on 24th Dec, and have received replies from most but mainly BarclaysRBS and Santander who have advised the same that they will put a hold on all calls etc for 30 days which is really nice as that was one thing i was terrified of, good luck harrysmummy78
It would be a positive move if the creditors were recognising that once insolvent they need to give us a bit of time to sort things through with a solution.
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.
It makes me think -- that with all the current cuts in income, pay rises and allied benefits, that the staff in the lending institutions are feeling our pain as well and are becoming more empathic.

also to add I have just received a letter from NRAM aswell for my loan and they also have put my account on hold and advised they will conot contact me for another 30 days and it was quite a polite letter so feeling quite alot better about the situation.. and I guess maybe it is better to make telephone contact with them as all the letters that were coming in daily were causing me alot of stress and worry so at least I will be well on my way in the next 30 days and wont jump evey time the phone rings..
