Hey all,

After I sell my restaurant (hopefully very soon but could take ages!), I'm going to need a job! Just wondered if anyone had any ideas for possible jobs that deal with helping people with debt.

I've just signed up on the CAB website to volunteer in my local CAB as an advisor, not sure whether they have any places free for volunteers, website said they will contact me within a month. But I thought this might be a good learning experience for me.

I obviously have no real experience except what I'm going through myself and what I learn here on the forum, I read every post with interest and it's become a bit of an obsession. [:I]

I've only got maths, english and art o'levels grade B and my biggest computer achievement is being able to post on this forum as I've done the books for the business using the old fashioned simplex D way.

Positive points are :- worked in bank for 8 years and ran my own restaurant for 8 and a half years.

what do you all think? What job could I do? Obviously I'll need to get any job that's available to me, I won't be able to be picky but would love to do something to help others in our situation.

Your advice and comments would, as always, be appreciated.

Viki X

Thanks Ang, yes I'm only in Liverpool but don't think I can actually go for a job yet until I know when restaurant sells, maybe I can be cheeky and email Ian in the future. I hope this post doesn't look like I'm asking for jobs! I just wanted to know if there is a job that exists that I could possibly do one day. Thanks again Ang, good to know.

Admin, sorry if this looks like some sort of CV![:I]

I've just found Ian's job post, front-line telephone advisor, I reckon something like that would be perfect. Can't wait to be able to job hunt seriously, I feel like my life is on hold!

Well Viki, I don't see any harm in getting in touch with Ian to see how the land lies with any future vacancies........
It's nice to be back......

I think your personal experience of debt difficulty would be invaluable if you choose to persue a career in the debt solutions industry.
Best Regards
Oliver

Thanks Oliver, that's good to know. I suppose a lot of people in debt have the same idea as me.

Yeah Chris, no harm in being cheeky eh?

No harm in asking Vicki, you never get anything unless you ask.
Even if Ian no longer has a vaccancy he may know someone who has xx
Be positive & look after yourself, there are more important things in life than debts....

Best Wishes

I've met Ian and I am sure he would be a great boss to work for. Very knowledgeable and experienced, yet a human being behind the suit. And he has lots of contacts in the North West area so I am sure he would be able to point you in the right direction.

Ah thanks Melanie, I guess Ian will be the guy to know! I'm going to try and do the volunteer bit at CAB whilst I'm still in restaurant because they are only open in morning so that's ideal for me and then in the future when I'm jobless, well, Ian, if you're reading this I might put you on the spot! Working for the CAB will be extremely rewarding and they do such a fantastic job with limited funding. If you concentrate on the debt side, this will stand you in good stead for the future.

I hope so, I put on the application about being a debt and benefits advisor so hopefully they will have some need for me, I'm sure they will, from what I've heard. Thanks Melanie, I'm trying to look forward to the future now instead of sulking about the present. (although I am still a bit sulky! [:(]) Viki X

Thanks Barb, I feel like I'm the one who is being supported by you! I guess we are all in the same boat, whatever stage we're up to. I'm so impatient, that's my problem, I want everything to happen now! I should start writing my CV, that'll make me feel better. I bet you're feeling so much better today after all the commotion of yesterday. I'm so so pleased for you, you deserve it. Viki X
