Post Office Christmas Club

I picked up a leaflet the other day and thought I would share especially if you're rubbish at saving like me!

Originally I looked at the Park saving scheme for Christmas but decided I didn't want the commitment of a regular monthly amount.

With the Post Office Scheme you can pay in as and when with a minimum deposit of £5, so paying in the extra few quid at the end of the week is doable.

And the best bit is you can't have the money until 1 November.

I will be joining tomorrow!

I saw that today! I've got the leaflet but I'm not sure if I'm going to do that or the Yorkshire Building Society Christmas savings account - I need to read about both of them.

That's why I've decided to do one or the other this year!

I've decided to go for the YBS account as I'll get the money in cash rather thana prepaid card or vouchers. As I send Dave shopping at Christmas cash is easier!

I saw the Post Office one a while back, but ive lost the leaflet now. Does anyone know if they allow you to take the cash back out from November the 1st or if its a voucher scheme where you get vouchers for well known high street brands?

You are given a card to pay in money, and then in November you can use the card to spend the money you have saved in participating stores.

The alternative is you go into a Post Office and have the money saved converted into One4all gift vouchers that can be used in thousands of stores.

It looks as though you have something like a prepayment type card which can be used at certain retailers.

I believe Yorkshire deals in cash.

I'm opening the postal one as we don't have a branch nearby.

I haven't told Dave that the only way you can get at the money before December is by order of the court or death - luckily I won't be putting enough in to make it worth his while!

my mother in law has started a didlum, where anyone in the family can save for xmas, she has two signatures on the account, and withdraws in nov, i'm joining it this year, and hoping to get my older children to join to.

1st December is fine for me. Last year I bought a few presents throughout the year, and Dave did the food shopping as I refuse to go near Christmas!

Good luck with the saving Moneypenny - I really can't get excited about Christmas, I'm still recovering from the last one!

My cousin used to work for the Co-op bank and me and my parents used to do what was then called 'The Penny Bank'. Same sort of thing.

I used to love getting my money out at Christmas.

In my previous job I saved £10 a week in a thrift club throughout the year and loved it at Christmas as it was lovely and I hadn't really missed the money in them days!
