I gather that some claims are taking this long, but that the Financial Ombudsman are trying to speed things up at present.

Hi Mandamoo and welcome to the forum, sadly I think because of the upsurge of claims over the last 18 months both by the general public as well as by claims firms the ombudsman is inundated at present. I know that the FO themselves have said it could take up to 18mths for resolution, so hang in there and fingers crossed it will be sorted soon, good luck.
Om shanti, namesté, good luck to all who are embarking on the IVA journey, it isn't always an easy one but the outcome is the best.

IVA COMPLETED August 2012, received Completion certificate 18.4.13.
