Hi. DMP Question. I'm on a DMP which completes next year. Have recently been offered a new job and part of the pre-employment screening includes the FSA Fit & Proper Test. I've spoken to the recruitment team of the firm who has offered me the job, and they have said to provide info and that situations are reviewed by a case by case basis. I aslo spoke to the firm undertaking the pre employment screening - the process includes getting a security clearance - and they advised to put as much detail as possible as the key issue is that I'm not seen to be hiding anything.

Just wanted to know if anyone has any experience of pre employment tests. Appreciate that this is an IVA forum, but having tried DMP related forums didn't get any feedback.

Thanks for your help.

They will certainly check the Insolvency Register but of course the DMP won't be on there. Not sure if they will check the credit agencies or not.

Hopefully someone will be around later that knows.

We answer questions about all debt solutions on here - not just an IVA.

Hi
when i applied for a job with bupa and the home office, i had one of these checks, I think it involved a credit record check - I was bankrupt at the time, and they came back to me, and said they wanted further information, how much the bankruptcy was for - how much i owed, and the reason why I went bankrupt. When I explained due to health reasons they where ok with that. I think they do it to see whether you would be liable for corruption or money laundering, but once they had my references my confirmation about the bankruptcy and had spoken to the official reciever and my credit record they were happy.

It will depend upon what the position is - I know that police forces will not entertain anyone who is bankrupt or in an IVA for at least three years after BR discharge or once the IVA has finished.

It all depends on the job.

It does make me wonder where they get this information from, 3 years after discharge or being in a IVA there is no record of the data after it's gone from the CRA.

Do these companies who do these vetting checks have access to, and keep, old insolvency records that have since been deleted at the insolvency service and the CRA?

Surely the BR will be made public through the Gazette - therefore this information will be on printed file for as long as its exsists, as you said Matrix, perhaps they do keep copies of the insolvency registers

IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Lesley - yes you can remain in the police force with an IVA but may not be able to move posts if it requires a financial check for a new position.

BR notification is available forever via the Gazette - as to whether the police check that as well as the Insolvency Register I have no idea.

Thanks for all the responses. The Fit & Proper Test is returned straight to the employer, that asks if you've been bankrupt, made a compromise agreement or any other arrangement with creditors in the past 10 year. The role I've been offered doesn't involve being an Approved Person under the FSA rules, but it seems they have a blanket approach of asking anyone they make a job offer to, to complete the Fit & Proper questions. The background and security check is done by a third party company, and they have a whole section of finance which does specifically ask about DMPs. It show's that it's for Non FSA approval process, so I suppose they don't go into things in so much detail. It does involve a credit check, which will show 3 defaults and not much else - regularly check my credit record as have had incorrect information recorded in the past. Hopefully I should hear in 1 week about the firms view of my being on a DMP. I did include a covering letter advising that at the time I experience a change in household income, and my and partner began to find it difficult to meet all our credit commitments, so we took advice from the CCCS and set up a DMP. Fingers crossed it will go okay.
