Aguise - I'm in the middle of talks with my IP at the moment (yesterday). They will do a variation, so lets hope it works in our favour. Overtime isn't an option fo me, I work in a school. I do have a day off per week and to be honest I never eben thought of asking if I could work my day off, but if I did, they would probably keep it as flexi time rather than paid. But thank you for your ideas, they are always very welcome.

ray a -I did see that post office think on this site ealrier and I thought it sounded great, it will be my first priority when it is up and running.

Louisa.s - Thanks, I didn't think to look on amazon for games. He's after Legend of Zelda-phantom hourglass, but it is the DS not PS2. I will take a look at amazon, after the school run. bye for now!!!

You could also try www.play.com as I have bought some bits and pieces from there which were cheaper than on the high street.

Skippy13, i've just looked at your blog and come across you I & E, i notice you have holiday down at £20, do they allow that?
The reason I ask is when I mentioned to our IP re never being able to try to save for a little holiday for the benefit of our son, a UK holiday, perhaps camping which we enjoy, the IP said that we shouldn't be able to save for a holiday it's not essential.
Just a thought. Perhaps I should try to put that in next time we have a review.!!!

I'm actually BR Stones, and as daft as it seems allowances in BR are more relaxed than in an IVA. I must admit I was surprised that I was allowed any sort of holiday allowance though as I don't have children.

Have you thought about saving the tokens from the Sun for one of their family holidays? I know some of the others on here have done it and had a good time.

I feel so out of touch, half of the things that have been suggested here, I would never have thought about before. Sun? didn't know they did that. If anybody has any more great money saving tips, please please share them, thank you so much everybody, catch you tomorrow.

Try doing your food shopping fortnightly rather than weekly. I tried this personally, and found that I was spending 1 1/2 times what I normally spent on a week, rather than twice. You tend to be more focussed on menu planning and making sure that you have the essentials, and less likely to impulse buy just because you fancy something.

And I am probably one of e-bays best customers. Brand new work suits from the US at a snip of the price of the high streets - and a better fit for the rounder lady!!!

I agree Mel - when we were waiting for a moving date we were shopping weekly and spent a lot more. We went to Asda on Monday and actually did 2 weeks shopping for less than £100! Admittedly it was only the basics - no washing powder, cleaning products, toilet rolls etc. I know the next one will be higher, but at least now we're covered for that.

I buy clothes on Ebay (last purchase a pair of sheepskin boots to keep my feet warm at football!) - most things are fine but some aren't so I then re-sell them.

Hi all.
Just a quick post. Re shopping.
We are a little unlucky where we live because we do not have a supermarket for 20 miles. We have a little co op, but they are so expensive.
So, because we have to travel a distance, we do monthly shopping. BUT, doing it this way means that you still have to buy from the little co op for things like bread and milk and weekly school lunchs, fruit. These things add up when you are paying inflated prices. We are just unlucky to not have good resources locally I suppose we all take it for granted when we have it already. When we moved here 4yrs ago, we said how lucky we were before moving because we had every big retailer within 2 miles of home, we are lost now. Also we can't shop on a budget because we have to shop at Tesco's or Sainsbury's. There is a morrison's 40 miles away, bit impractical though!!!
We got used to traveling to do our shopping and it was almost enjoyable. But when you are on a tight budget, it's not the same. Right now I'd love to have a Kwik save local to here. We could do online at Tesco, but by the time we are paid, our cupboards really are bare, so we need to shop then, online you have to book a slot and at this time of year it's a 10 day wait.
One good thing though, having limited food items really does push you to be more creative with food!!!

Hi there stones dont discount the online shop, I booked yesterday lunch with sains and it was delivered this am. You could do a once a month for the big stuff like sugar cleaning, loo rolls and all your tinned stuff that way you wouldnt have to buy so much locally. If you have a freezer fill it with the meat for the month and save on the more expensive stuff. i shop online with tescos and sains and they are no more expensive than any other if you shop carefully and buy the stuff on offer and at least doing it monthly you will take full advantage of any offers, things like two medium chickens for 5.50 at tescos that on its own would save a bit. I buy any value stuff like loo cleaner thats 26p really nice as well just no fancy bottle. If you have a good think you will save the delivery on your time and travel . Any way will stop rambling. Hope that helps a bit.
