Hi everyone, small question if I may. Before applying for IVA we cleared off o/draft with Barclays so we could still use this account as all our direct debits are set up here. We had a bit of a near miss because our chosen company sent them a letter to be included in our proposal due to the o/draft still showing on our last statement.

We managed to contact bank and told them to ignore the letter, this was backed up by a letter of apology from our providers. At this point we were expecting the bank to ring and ask us to close our account, this has not happened yet. After all this I have just checked online today to see if the direct debit is set up for our first payment in April, it is, but at the end of the company name it actually says, INSOLVENCY.[:(]

We are a bit peeved that we have done everything possible to keep it as low key as possible only to find out it tells the bank on the direct debit reference. The company we have chosen have been very good with us, extremely friendly and helpful, it just appears odd to flag it up to the bank what is happening. Has anyone else had this problem? Also, does anyone bank with Barclays and the bank knows they are in an IVA or applying for one? We have requested the o/draft facility to be removed from next month.

As far as I know Barclays are one of the banks that accept undischarged bankrupts so as long as you dont owe them anything it should be OK. Someone correct me if I am wrong. Youre aware that you cant have any credit facilities. HSBC/First direct close accounts when they find out.

In my opinion its best to be honest with them, then you wont be worried about the 'what if they find outs' further down the line. I was honest with both my new banks and they were OK about it all. Youre facing your debts head on and that can only be a good thing, there is nothing to be ashamed of.

Thanks Lily, not really ashamed, just pride dented slightly. Totally focussed now for meeting on 31st, wife and I now jointly involved financially - best thing we've ever done! No secrets - it's all there on the statements.

I agree BoT me and hubby now know all financial secrets, we feel this has brought us closer together.. everything out in open, line drawn underneath and onwards and upwards TOGETHER!! Not so long ago it seemed like everything was rapidly failing, especially our marriage, its so easy when you're bogged down, to forget about the things that are so important!! never again our family is too special to lose
Ang.. 13 payments in.. WOW, thats over 20% paid!! http://angela18.blogs.iva.co.uk/ well here we go

if you wish for a rainbow... then you have to put up with the rain xx
