Hi all,

Just a quick question...

If OH sold his mobile phone and got say a couple of hundred quid for it, would something like this normally have to be given over to the IVA? Or eg. something like money off a car boot i.e. selling your own belongings - would any proceeds from sale of your own goods need to go into IVA?

OH and I got talking last night and whilst not specific at mo we do sometimes do car boots etc or ebay the odd thing and wondered how this would work?

Thanks for any advice? [8D]

Hey Til, if you are selling your old stuff then no you don't have to hand the money over, if you were to start a buying and selling business on ebay then yes, you would have to inform your IP. Ebay is a godsend! Happy selling. X

Selling personal belongings is acceptable whilst in an IVA and the proceeds can be kept.

Since my IVA a year ago, I have held three car boot sales and raised over £300 from junk that sat in our lift prior to our move - it has paid for a few camping trips this summer!

Your'e quite safe in selling items on ebay as long as it is not a business!

As Viki says, if it's your own stuff you are selling, it's ok. I sell my old stuff on Ebay quite a few times a year.

I'm selling stuff right now, so is hubby. I need to get myself some worky clothes as my restaurant clothes aren't really appropriate.[:I]

Also, I have the paypal card now so anything I make can go on that so I can buy things anywhere. I can't wait to make money, even if it's 99p per item, it will add up(I hope). X

Just to confirm from an IP perspective that you are perfectly entitled to sell any personal possessions - as they will have been excluded from your IVA. But as Viki says, if you start an e-bay buying and selling business, you will need to disclose this and register with HMRC for tax purposes.

It does add up Viki. I really need to put some stuff on, but I tend to wait until cheap listing day (my frugal side coming out!).

Brill that's great thanks for the advice as always guys :-)

We don't have a lot but it's good to know that I can still sell the junk (and unwanted in law pressies [:0]!) safe in the knowledge that we can keep the proceeds.

When my OH was in hospital and had long recuperation some years back I sold loads of stuff on ebay to keep food on the table (looking back should have sold more as that was the time when debt grew out of control!) but it certainly helped at least and now we have tight control of the money reins any extra we can 'earn' from selling our old stuff is a real treat!

I think it will be well used in future to raise funds for anything 'extra' we need.

Thanks again for advice [:D]

I sold a couple of tops last week and made £20, and I've got 3 more on Ebay finishing tonight so another £20 would come in handy! I'm putting some more stuff on there today to finish next Sunday - I only put 3 or 4 items on at a time as I get confused if I've got too many things on there!

I'm the same as Skippy - a few things at a time. I needed some money for a quilting class I'm taking (wanted to try something different!). So I sold half a dozen of DD's dresses. Then spent the money straight away on ebay for the material. And I felt like it hadn't cost a penny :)

Yeh, same here.
Its amazing how quickly the odd pound here and there adds up, I've sold quite abit of 'junk' over the yr and made a few quid on it.
You will be amazed at what people buy from you.

Also as regards to the Paypal card, if you do any online surveys most of them pay via Paypal and along with your Ebay profits it can really help with birthdays etc when is all added to the Paypal card.

Cheap listing days aren't always the best time to list as the market is saturated with items and yours can easily be missed.I used to hate them! (I was an eBay shop owner and power seller for a while)

Have just sold some stuff on e bay myself and made £49. It was a a pain putting it all on and keeping track of it but well worth it in the end.Watch what you charge for postage, they have a link to royal mail which gives you the prices. I post 2nd class parcel and people seem to get their stuff the next day. The first time i did it i guessed the postage prices and ened up out of pocket so beware.
Iva finished !
