I wokre one night to hear some paper next to my bed rustling and scratching. It sounded right next to my head, I promptly jumped straight on top of my husband as i wasnt getting out near the noise, he woke thought I had gone mad! we stood a few minutes and then heard it again I thought oh god ther is a rat in the bedroom. Hubby brave man that he is, looked frit to death realy as he took the bottom drawer out. I expected some awful huge cat sized thing to jump out. Instead there was my daughters hamster merrily having a midnight wander. Gawd knows how he got out. Felt so sorry for him as he looked like he was thoroughly enjoying the freedom.
As for rats i would move out until they got rid of them, i had a rat hole by my bin years ago and wouldnt go near the dustbin for over a year.
Marie I hope they are gone soon.

We keep getting rats in the garden as my neighbours feeds the badgers, foxes, birds and any other wildlife with muffins with butter, bread and butter and all sorts of left overs. She just covers her back garden with goodies and obviously rats are attracted also.
Then they like to come into my garden as I have a nice pond that they can have a little swin around in!!

Had the rat man out a few times but I hate it when they die as I feel cruel. He held a baby up last time to show me and had me in tears as felt so awful. I have decided to leave them now, but obviously if they come into the house that would be a different story!!!

Hope they go soon Marie[:)]

Angela, I only wish it was!!!!! Just a titchy little fish pond on the patio with only 5 fish (a local cat had one of them only the other day). I suppose I could dangle my feet in it if I wanted, but that would be cruel to the fish!

We feed the birds, but only with nuts and bird seed. The problem as well is that there is a nature reserve at the back of my house, so we get all sorts of wildlife and it is quite boggy as well so attracts unwanted creatures

Ang she buys special food for all the wildlife, if I ever get peckish I shall be over the fence for a muffin....LOL

I have just managed to get her to stop putting meat bones on the front garden as my dog used to rush round and grab all the bones and I worried as they were bones that dogs should'nt really eat (not that the dog knows the diff!!)

She does get a lot of pleasure from seeing the badgers and foxes and other animals come into her garden so don't have the heart to complain.....

I agree Emma it is nice to see them and i dont have a problem with anybody feeding them i just dont want them near me. Girl at work does the same and feeds all and sundry. I tried the bird things on the trees but then had the squirrels pinching it so the birds didnt get it still. so i stopped. i did have a problem with squirrels as well in the loft and had to have them trapped as they were chewing anything in sight, so I just discourage all now. I have a pondd and worry about the rats but have never seen any near it and the local cats I think would have a whale of a time with them. Field mice I can cope with but rats urrrrrrrr.

Thank you for all your replies and posts. It is nice to know that we are ot the only ones who suffer with them.
Kallis We think that the are getting in further down the row of houses (we live in an end terrace). The 'rat man' looked round the house and said it is not getting in at our end? Part of us wishes it was then we could fix the problem.
The oh has checked again when he got home and he said the final bags of the poison have gone. I hope this will be the end of it.
Ang I had a hamster when I was a bit younger then I am now lol. It escaped too - it ate a big bowl of my mums cactus'. Suprised it survived, it must have been hard as nails!!
Oh well I will have to wait now til Monday for the rat man to come back and have a look round. I will let you all know.............
I too thought Kallis had posh rats - I thought you had a swimming pool too lol. only a bit jealous tho honest!

My aunt feeds the foxes and field mice that go in her garden. We put a couple of fat balls in the tree in the winter which went down well, and I put some peanuts out as well but they are still there! I'm reluctant to feed the birds now though, as I don't want Harry killing anything. I keep telling him he's a sandal wearing, CND supporting peace cat and so far it's worked!

Well, a week on and the 'rat man' has been back and placed 6 more bags of food (poison) under the floor. He said that rats eat 2oz of food a day and each bag of food is 2oz - therefore he said we had a sizable family of rats living underneath our row of houses. Great eh!
Although, all that said we have check the booty tonight and it hasn't been touched. Srry to all you rat lovers but it looks like they have snuffed it! I have to admit this makes me quite pleased.

Don't get me wrong pets I could probably cope with but wild rats - no way!

Hopefully this will be the last of it.

xx[:D]
