The other thing you can do as well is do a little shop and get cashback.

They were talking about this on the breakfast news this morning, they did say you can use Tesco ATM's as they are all on the same network so hopefully anyone who this affects can use a Tesco one.
They seem to be in most places these days, aren't they planning to take over the world with the every little helps slogan [:D][:D]

I have a Natwest Step account and as the article mentions step accounts I am assuming this is going to affect me, as I tend to use the Natwest one anyway hopefully it wont be a big inconvienience.

Hi All

When we started our IVA we both opened a CO-Op account I have a basic account and the OH has similar but slightly more facilities to it. I would suggest switching to the Co - Op as I rate them highly I should have done it years ago. Stuck with LTSB out of a loyalty that they did not show to us through the IVA process. They also voted no. I do not think that the CO - Op will go down the RBS decision, they are a bit more customer focussed.

I read that too yesterday in the paper, I hope they don't apply it to a Step account as It will be really inconvenient for me as there is no Natwest, Tesco etc within Walking distance for me.
In the reception of my office they have a Santander Cash machine which is great and I use this all the time.

Why do these banks always have to ruin things for customers!!!

The article in OP is BBC who actually only mention RBS. I looked at this last night on my break & other media sources are claiming it will be both RBS & Natwest. Have to say in north west of England won't be a problem for many as there is either a branch of Natwest, asda, morrisons or tesco. If not the trusty cash back option will still work. Hope my bank Yorkshire don't try this I'd be stuffed!! Whilst it is restrictive I think with a little planning the impact will not be as big as the media thinks.

I think this is absolutely disgusting. I have a step account and a savings account with NATWEST, and regulary use a local cashpoint which is not one of theirs. I am tempted to open another account with the co-op. It feels like being tarred with a 'You're in debt and a rubbish customer' slogan across your head.

It won't hurt you to open a Co-op account. I do hate banks that restrict the services you can use just because you have a basic account.

You may not be in trouble to have to have a basic account - youngsters starting out will have the same sort of account and it's not fair to penalise anyone.

I think Nationwide restricted their services last year. I remember something about only being able to withdraw over a certain amount in a branch if you have a basic account.

I would definitely recommend the Co-op.

I've not tried to withdraw loads from Nationwide but I've not had a problem getting money out. I expect my daily withdrawal cashpoint limit to be between £200 and £300 pounds. Never tried to withdraw anymore than that - wish I had that amount to withdraw!!!!!!

langerbridge, the OP article does only mention RBS but further down the article it mentions STEP accounts, do RBS do STEP accounts as well as NATWEST.
I feel quite peeved about this even though it is not going to affect me too much, as all the banks for the last few years have been closing branches now they are restricting the ATM's you can use, what choice do people have if their local branch was one of the ones closed.

The only thing you can do is use your card to buy something little that you need, and then get cashback.

Jan, if you've got a Nationwide basic account you can't withdraw less than £100 over the counter. The cash point limits are the same.

Skippy are you talking about cashcard+? The limit for cash withdrawal are you talking upper limit?
