I am paying back debt at the moment on a current account and credit card which are no longer active. the reason the balances are so high is mostly due to bank charges over the years. My question is, would I be able to reclaim my bank charges on these accounts even though they are not active now, but have been within the last 6 years? I would really appreciate some advice on this. Thanks

Hi suzie and welcome to the forum

From what I can gather from your post, I take it you are not in an IVA. Therefore reclaiming bank charges should not be a problem even though they are inactive.

I will trawl through my emails and will post a website for you.

Yes you can seek to claim any charges made in the last 6 years. There is a guide to help you do this on this websites homepage. I would advise you to be quick though as the first court case where the courts judgement was in favour of the banks happened recently. On the whole though the banks seem to be paying out at least part of the money back.

All the best!

Hi. I successfully reclaimed £3k from Abbey and no longer bank with them. Go to Yahoo and type in unfair bank charges, the option that comes up with Govan Law in the title is the site that I used as they have all of the standard letters that you will need to send to your bank. Def worth doing!!!

There is a free guide to reclaiming bank charges on this site. Just go to the homepage and it's on the right hand side of the screen.
