Have to say that it wouldn't bother me if my firm was local.
What I will say is that if you are self employed then you will need a face to face meeting anyway regardless of where you live.
Otherwise you do not have to have a meeting with your IP - I didn't. I know Mel likes to meet clients though.

Agree Jan. It's interesting isn't it - such a big thing being declared insolvent and committing to a long term solution to repay your debt and I've never met my I.P!. I personally preferred it that way but I think its very good practice if the I.P can afford the time to meet the debtor though.

I spoke to mine on the day of acceptance and that was it, it's all dealt with by case workers but I've no concerns with them at the moment.

I've had an IVA for the past 4 1/2 years and I've been with Chamberlain and Co, who at the time were based in Leeds, but have several offices now. They have been professional throughout my time with them and it's always been very easy to contact my IP and i always receive a timely response to any queries. I would happily recommend them
Just to let all forum members know that my firm have eight regional offices around the UK, and we operate in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland - so it is not right to state that we are only based in Cardiff.
Geography is rarely an issue, but it is fair to say that a lot of our local clients do like to pop in with documents or to have a chat from time to time, whilst others are very confortable to deal via the phone and e-mail.
It is all down to personal preference and a lot of companies will have both positive and negative comments from clients.
It is how comfortable you feel with a company and remember that you are with them for at least five years.

Make sure they're contactable is my key piece of advice, I all too often read on the forum the frustration of posters who can't contact their IP direct (which they have a right to do) and feel for them as I only have to pick up the phone or send an email and I'm answered almost instantly. I am with Jones Giles and they go above and beyond the call of customer care. x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.
Our main office is in Bury, Manchester, but as several people have quite rightly said the physical location should be secondary to the support and availability of the company in question. I'm sure that both small and large practices have their benefits.
The best thing to do is read some reviews and contact a few different companies before you make your decision.
