Reduce my carbon footprint

Great Scott!! £55.60 to fill my car!!! Effective from tomorrow I am changing my driving style. For 30 years I have driven.....uh let’s say ‘assertively’ (I like to use my accelerator and drive at the speed limits) so from now on I will pull away smoothly and a max of 60mph. It’s a return drive of 48 miles to my work, most of it motorway. I have a 2 litre Zafira let’s see if this works

max debt, i know what you mean, the price of fuel is shocking!

luckily i only haave to travel about 4 miles each way to work and back!

We put £20 in yesterday and it barely registered on the petrol gauge! I could be walking to work soon!

I signed up to Petrolprices.com (I think that's the right address) and it tells me the cheapest fuel in the area. It is fairly accurate although your cheapest station might have gone up by a penny inbetween you reading their prices and getting there. There is one station by me where it seems to go up daily!

I use a local Jet garage which competes with the nearby Asda and is always a penny cheaper. Saying that in the past week both garages have increased there petrol by 3 pence/litre!! Anyway I will be driving like my dad [;)] effective from tomorrow [:(]

I need to put some petrol in and I'm dreading it! I refuse to use supermarket petrol (got by Tesco last year!) so I'll try and find the cheapest of the big names [:(]

I filled my car up yesterday and it cost me £90!

Our nearest petrol station is 9 miles away, so need to make sure I had enough to get me there.

Our Tesco's is one of the dearest around! Always thought they would be cheaper.

What gets me is that people will go to the dearest filling station when there will be one not too far away who is cheaper. I know that I always keep a look out on my way to work. OK, if you are a stranger to the area and need fuel then you have an excuse, but in these days of ever rising fuel, locals should be shunning the dearer ones

Tesco was actually dearer than BP near me recently!

Don't know why they should suddenly be dearer for fuel. Perhaps they have to do that to keep food prices down?

OK I have the results of my change of driving style:

Pros: I got an extra 50 miles out of my tank!! I reckon I will save£5 on a tankfull that’s £20 a month.
My car engine will apparently last longer driving slower and smoother.
I will reduce my carbon footprint
Driving to and from work was less stressful. I think that is due to the reduced overtaking manouvers and not taking on the boy racers [:D]


Cons: I felt I was 5 minutes behind the real me!! I found myself imagining a ‘virtual’ me, already back home, shoes kicked off, curled up in a chair munching some Frosties and watching Lorraine ( I work nights 8pm till 8am, 40 minute drive to and from work....45 minutes now!)
I have to leave 5 minutes earlier to get to work on time
Premature aging!!

I am a member of that site Suzanne and have a bi-weekly email advising of lowest prices in my local area.

I have 3 petrol stations within 2miles of me and you wouldn't believe the price difference.

The supermarkets increase theirs depending on local rival supermarket petrol prices - you would think they'd price cut eh?
