In large accountancy firms - Supervisor is a grade of a member of staff. I was one a long time ago at Coopers and Lybrand, before I became a real Supervisor of course!

In my day it was Manager, Assistant Manager and today they are also called Director's - that is before they become a Partner - if they make the grade.

Too technical for me! I'll stick at the bottom of the tree - I know where I am there!

I tried for promotion three times, and each time it was 'it's not what you know, it's who you know'. I've given up now.

I go in, do my time and then come home again. I'm starting to count down to retirement now, so they can just leave me in my little corner!

They don't do promotion where I work! The next step for me would be sales supervisor, but my friend who has that job has been with the company 21 years this year!

I've looked elsewhere, but to get the same money I'd need to be a manager, and as I don't have the experience I can't get a job!

How long have you both been working in your respective jobs?

I've worked in the position I am in for 28 years in total, but only 5.5 at my present location.

Then you have bags of experience - don't understand why you don't get promotion.

As I said previously - it's not what you know, but who you know, and everytime a team leader job has come up, the 'golden' one has been picked.

They don't come up very often, and I doubt another one will be available before I retire (only two team leaders in the office).
