Redundancy threat

We have heard today from my OH company that there are threats of redundancy. His boss has contacted him saying as he is the most qualified engineer, he is too expensive for them and its likely he will be one of them to go.

We are worried sick the consultation meeting is next Friday. This is worse that waiting for the creditors to accept our IVA - which we have only made one contribution to[:(]

What is the procedure for redundancy selection, surely they can't just finish him because he is the highest earner in his team? DO they have to do a skills match or something?

What will happen to our IVA if he can't get a job straight away?

We worried sick [:(][:(]
IVA completed September 2014. Finaly debt free - final dividend 88p/£

Don't worry about the IVA right now. You can speak to your IP about this directly when you have some confirmed information.

I am not an employment law expert, but there are lots of consultations which have to take place before redundancies can be made and you just need to get through the next couple of weeks. How callous of his boss to tell him in such manner - and he needs to be careful as saying things like that could just give rise to a large constructive dismissal claim.

Best in the job and they want to sack him 1st,thats whats wrong with our b***** country,everyone wants the job done cheap,skills count for nothing. I hope hubby gets kept on,fingers crossed.
Discharged today the 8th feb 2012. View is much brighter now.
Continuing to rebuild our credit worthiness.

sorry to hear this have you thought about protecting your iva payments with insurance?i am not sure if there is any clauses as to when you started it before you can claim you would need to check it maybe worth a try you could also ask this to be added to your income and expenditure as it benefits both partys

Fingers crossed that he keeps his job.

As for the insurance, I think if you check out the Debtwizard web site, there's some on there and it's reasonably priced as well.

Oh dear, know how you feel as I have just been through all that myself.
And I was the one that got chopped!!!
Selection criterion varies depending on negotiations with any union body.
In my case the factors were, Critical skills, time and attendance, sickness, attitude to change and any disciplinary proceedings.
They did say that rate of earnings were not scored...........however I was one of the higher earners concerned. Maybe just a coincidence.
Best of luck......It's a worry until you know whether you are safe or not.
Try not too worry too much after all it may not happen.
On a final note I think that if the numbers effected are over a certain size then consultations have to be 3 months, so you may have some breathing space.
My company kept the numbers down to 27 thereby being able to push it through in 30 days.

This happened to Dave - he was told he had to attend a meeting regarding pay structures and when he got there he was told that he could either take redundancy or be managed out of the company. Dave and the other manager were the most experienced and best paid engineers at the company.

I hope things work out for you and your hubby Suzanne. I hate the way some companies treat people like lumps of meat.
