Hello,

I have recently set up my IVA and am one payment in, i am looking to move out of my parents house and rent with my boyfriend but he doesnt know about my IVA, i am not sure the process as obviously its quite difficult to rent within an IVA. This option would be cheaper than living at home and may mean me paying more into the IVA so its a good decision however, i am not sure how i go about it?

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Sam,

If you were thinking of renting together then your IVA would come to light if a credit check was done, plus it could damage your boyfriends credit rating if you were financially linked.

Can you tell him about the IVA? Might make things easier to sort out and it would probably be better for him to rent solely in his name and you pay him rent.

May not matter who's name the rent is in, if sam 5426 delcares it as her registard address for council tax, electoral role and well the IVA itself, then it's going to be tricky all round!
Can't rent from a renter a big no no under any tennancy agreement

I think the addage honesty is the best policy and I hate to have to say that!

Your IVA will come up on any check that the lettinga gents do unless you can locate a private landlord who does not do as stringent checks.

Starting out in life living together is a time for honesty and I would recommend you discuss the situation with your boyfriend

When renting and in an IVA you are sometimes required to pay six months rent up front to show that you are worthy of the money etc - my suggestion would be to see if your boyfriend can get the letting agreement in his own name, make sure the place you rent will suffice for the duration of your IVA so that you do not need to consider moving in the future, and then you pay your boyfriend some money towards the rent - however your letting agent may require up front the names of those living in the property so it still may come to light !
Honesty is going to be the best policy I fear on this one ! Good luck !

As long as you can prove what you are paying then there won't be a problem.
