Hey Mrs Skint, I often get the same but I have a problem, when I'm in bed, I have to constantly move my legs up until I drop off (sleep that is not drop off the bed) I don't know what causes it and I've always thought it was habit, not physical. Sorry, not much help. Hope you're ok hun.[:)] X

p.s. i'm glad the forum is back![:I]

Yeah, me too. This is the first full weekend I've not worked for years.....don't know what to do with myself. I did watch a dvd with hubby though, that was fun, and then I made butterscotch angel delight, and then I ate the whole lot![:p]

Sorry you're not sleeping well, you don't seem to be able to catch a break.[:(] X

LOL i always though restless legs was something people got when they were old. I'm 37 and mine are driving me insane.

Well, I don't drink, but I'll bring the chocolate! PARTY PARTY![:o)]

Hope you get those legs sorted, have you tried some cream for them, you can get stuff for sore, tired legs can't you, maybe that might help.....not sure though.

Big hug coming your way.[:)] X

I've just had a look on the nhs website and it says you should cut down on caffeine if you've got restless leg syndrome! It also said a warm bath before bedtime and a leg massage might make it better. A job for your oh there then, running a bubble bath for you and massaging your pins! X

Hi Mrs S

A bit of an enimga in my profession, but iron deficiency, hypoglycaemia and low uptake of certain neurotransmitters, nerve damage, and others are thought to be the cause. Baseline iron levels can be found to be low, B12 vit C help the absorption of iron, there are a number of variables so its really difficult to pin point the cause and therefore the treatment. Some studies have been done but on an individual basis, one GP or podiatrist faced with so many possibilites....... Some have found relief in natrual rememdies, neurotransmitters and an avoidance of caffine and a high protein diet. Some just treat the problem with sedatives but these can be highly addictive. I have known some come into clinic and cry for help, its a very tiring problem. I hope you get some relief very soon.

Good luck.

Restless legs tends to be triggered by cold, damp weather conditions but there is an association with diabetes, vitamin B an iron deficiency, excess caffeiene and withdrawal from drugs.

The following herbs can help:

Chamomile infusion or compress
valerian root
bruised cloves

Armotherapy:

Benzoin, bergamot, frankincense - all have a calming action on nervous system and can be added to the bath or in a vaporiser or in a massage (use a carrier oil first)

A few drops of chamomile, lavendar, marjoram and ylang ylang can help you sleep.

Homeopathy:

Arsenicum - for general restlessness and feelings of chilliness
Sepia - for twitching which is worse during the day and better for taking exercise

Belladonna - for legs that jerk into spasm and for feeling hot with cold extremities

Ignatia - for when the problem comes on afte grief or a broken love affair

Flower Remedies

Rescue remedy cream (fab stuff!) can be rubbed into te muscles of the legs as required to calm.

Vitamins and Minerals

Vitamin E will help control the condition
Iron or vitamin B can often be at the heart of the condition so ensure your diet is rich in these.
Cut down consumption of stimulants (caffeine alcohol and tobacco)

Keep the affected area warm and take plenty of warm baths

Take Zinc for trembling twitching feet and restless legs even whilst sleeping.
Completion Certificate received September 2012.

Wow Angelrainbow - what a weird coincidence!
My Hubby has sufferred really badly with Restless Leg Syndrome for years now and just last night I was nagging him to try to find some sort of homeopathic remedy or something to aid it and here this morning top of the list is your post and all your advice!!!

Talk about the universe giving you an answer when you ask for it! ha ha! [:D][:D]

I am now going to print this off and hand it to him and then I will defo try out some of your suggestions on him (getting him to take things when he should is a nightmare but will give it a go!)...

Thanks so much!

I am reading this thread with interest, my brother is diabetic and has lost both his legs, he's 44 and now bed bound. Lots of restless leg syndrome seems to refer to diabetes. I have a pain in my calf and have had restless legs for years. I went to the Dr's in May and in June had my MRI, the ther day had a DVT scan. Last weekend fell out the back door and hurt my toe, my toe nail is hanging on by a thread. I know you have to be more than careful with your foot hygiene when diabetic as learnt a lot when bro was going through his traumas. I've had two diabetes tests over the years and always ok, but now the more I read the more I think maybe?? My Dad was diabetic too (now passed away). I don't have any classic symptoms though of thirst etc., but could it be possible, I can't eat chocolate it puts me to sleep!

Sorry Mrs S for hijacking your thread, I empathise totally with you re your legs it's awful, I took paracetamol last night as at 3am 'ish' with granddaughter staying I was desperate for sleep.
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.
