HI anybody been here . Payed baines&ernst £446 for first two payments for a iva they said that I would get . They passed my file on to blaire endersby who passed it to a firm called Hjs recovery who do all there self employed , They called to say that a dmp would be more suitable for me and I would not get a iva even though my debt is £47,000 . this all took about thirteen weeks bearing in mind I was on a dmp with payplan when I called them, then when I asked for my £446 back they said that I was out of there cooling off period even though it was them that took so long .Think I have had a expensive lesson s544
S544 - I don't know if this is any help to you but six or maybe seven firms (three very well known ones) told me very firmly that I would not get an IVA under any circumstances. I went to Melanie Giles who posts on here and she took me on board - got a very difficult IVA through obtaining for me all I wanted the creditors to accept. Melanie did this at the first attempt! I suggest you give her a ring.
Thanks elv5 for the advise have been with Melanie for about two weeks now , just wish I found out about this web site and its advise sooner thanks s544
hi...i have had the same problem ....hjs took my money over a 1000 pound and now wont even return my calls...made umpteen calls to speak to the person who was dealing with my case but shes never in or in a meeting or not at her desk...i have heard them all.no return phone calls so totally ripped off and back to square 1 x
B&E post here and I am sure they will pick up on this thread. Regardless, you should approach another IP firm who have experience of self employment and who will not pass you to a third party. Any new IP firm will not only help you draft a proposal but also find out where your money went.
Hindsight is wonderful but stories like this do show the danger of paying money in advance of any proposals being drafted. I am curious as to whether you have ahd a face to face meeting with HJS if you are self employed. This is a requirement of our regulators.
There are several oompanies who post on here who deal with the self employed.
Visit www.iva.com and you can phone any of the companies on there. You will not be asked to pay upfront fees, and make sure that you ask whether or not they specialise in the self employed.

Sadly, another salutory lesson to be learned re making payments before an IVA is accepted. It is legitimate to do so in my book, but only if the payment is guaranteed refundable in the event of none acceptance. We don't take any, Mel takes one but will refund, which is the same in reality as not taking one. There are a number of live threads on this so do take time to do your research before your next move.

We signed up with Vincent Bond a couple of weeks ago, but haven't yet made the first upfront fee (mainly because we can't afford it!) - they want two £300 upfront payments - advice please? Anyone else used them recently?
Vincent Bond are a good company, but they do charge upfront fees.
Is this for an IVA or DMP? Either way, there are other companies who offer both for no upfront fees.
Visit www.iva.com and you can find companies on there who won't charge you.
