Hi
We are currently in a fixed Santander mortgage, which we had two separate loans which had different fix end dates (I managed to secure a fix on the first one in May of this year). However, I have just found out that they won't offer me a fixed rate on my other loan which is due to expire in February 2011. I have been in an IVA since 2007 and this is the first time I have had a problem. Has anyone else been experiencing problems with Santander? We have never missed a mortgage payment and have been customers for over 15 years! Can anyone recommend a good broker that deals with mortgages for people in IVAs? I have heard that even when we go onto the variable (which is cheaper than our current fixed rate), they can choose what they charge us!
Any help/advice would be appreciated as I am really worrying about this now and how it will affect our IVA which we have been paying for almost 4 years!

Hi, sorry to hear that you are having problems with Santander.

Unfortunately you are unlikely to be able to get a mortgage with anyone else whilst in an IVA.

As far as I am aware, they will just charge you the SVR which is what I pay and it's not excessive.

Hi Kallis
Thanks for that. If it is the SVR that is fine as it is cheap at the moment. I worry about the rates going up as we are in a 6 year IVA. I suppose there's nothing to be done but wait and see what happens in February. I'm just confused at why they have changed now when it was only in May this year that I got a fixed rate from them on the other part of my mortgage!
They have definitely gone downhill since changing from being the Abbey National.

I can't see them charging you excessively. It's not in anyones interests for them to do that.

Hi Blods
I suppose I was lucky then to get a fix in April this year. I am just worried that they will charge over the SVR which has been mentioned elsewhere on this site. When your fix ended did you just revert to the current SVR or did they write to you?

Hi Destiny,i went in to see them to get a new deal and thats when they told me they could not offer me anything. My only option was to go on the svr.
If you get a copy of your land registry you will more than likely see a warning on it from Santander.
