Soggy pastry, jam and cold custard with a skin on top. Yuk! God only knows what it had to do with Manchester!

gold coloured metal water jugs and metal cups, was like eating a 2 bob coin.
in the days before maggie thatcher stopped it, warm milk that had been kept by the radiator sucked through a paper straw.

And the 10p (or two shillings) you used to take to school each Monday from your Mum to pay for National Savings Stamps. Don't know what happened to mine they could be worth a bit now!

getting called in early for a bath on sunday night ready for school next day.sunday was the only day we had the hot water on.
the smell of the paraffin heater in the bathroom.
(mom used to give me 2 bob to fetch a gallon of pink, and i could get sweets with the change, a mars bar was threepence, and some black jacks or kay-li with the rest.)
listening to the top 40 with alan freeman, then sing something simple came on and i switched the radio off.
i still hate sundays.

Thing is I made some just last week for the first time in years and it just isn't the same..... why do we prefer things better in our memories?? It's like bull whelks, I used to eat them by the bucket full and can't even look at them now!!! Argh..........[xx(]

Do you know whoever started the friends blogs are amazing - it certainly takes your mind of the stress of finances and current situations. Can't remember any favourites but remember I hated semolina - even if you stirred jam in it was still yuk. Have to say most of my school dinners and both primary and secondary were good but thats probably coz that was my main meal of the day - we didn't have much money (family of 7) in those days (get the violin out if you like!)

The blancmange skin made me urge. I remember once that a there was like all black bits in the mash looked like flies and a boy next to me (he was about 10)walked over & threw it in the back dustbin with all the food rubbish and a teacher actually made him scoop it out all with all the other waste & made him sit in front of us & eat it all. It was awful for him & us having to watch it.

My favorite was the chips they were lovely!

I always had to have school dinners (they were free!) and i always hated rice pudding or semolina with a blob of jam - I always mixed it up and then ditched it!!! Happen to love it now - Ambrosia has converted me!!!

And I always wanted to have a packed lunch with a funky lunchbox and flask - it was always a dream that eventually came true when I was 7!!!

Incidentally does anyone remember the sweets that were square like chewits but were green and white striped and spearmint flavoured?
