Many thanks for all the kind support and emails. Reading back through the posts I get the feeling that most of the aggressive and vigorous chasing is being done in situations where the debts had already been passed on prior to an IVA being set up. Having worked in a large IT company in the past I kn...

Many thanks for the replies. I am in a position at the moment of being able to meet the minimum payments. This, however, is barely moving the total debt due to the very high rates of interest on it all. Also, I am then finding that I have to use the little I have cleared for shopping/petrol, etc. Th...

I have just started reading the IVA thread and am now quite depressed. I was thinking of entering into an IVA, and one of the main benefits, for me, was going to be the fact that creditors are legally bound by it and are not supposed to be allowed to contact you. Seeing as my biggest debt is with Ba...

The SLC is unusual in that there is no requirement to begin repayments until you are earning £15,000+. Hello, I posted on here the other day under a seperate question and the issue of Student Loans came up. There are cons with both including it in your debt total and with leaving it out. Apparently the SLC have a tendancy to refuse IVA arrangements and, since they make up apx 50% of the total debt, t...

Melanie, You raise an interesting point regarding the student loan. I had not thought of the student loan as part of my problems, simply because it works on a complete different process (you only make payments when you earn more than £1250gross in any month, interest is tied to the rate of inflation...

Hello. I spent a large part of last year unemployed after being made redundant in Jan 2008. I spent many weeks using my credit cards to substitute my weekly income, as well as paying a couple of large bills for car jobs. As of March 2009 I am now in full time employment, although my wage is lower th...
