Thanks very much for that - I have had a offer of DMP from Abacus but am a bit worried about their charges as this is less that you are paying off - I have been led to believe that creditors prefer fee paying companies rather than Payplan does anyone know if this is correct?

Thanks very much - I am keeping my fingers crossed! My parents want to use equity in their house to pay debts but I refused - awful thought put to me by my dad that if I have to pay for 10+ years it will be OK as they won't be around by then and my inheritance will pay them off!! I was not very happ...

Hi, My partner and I also contact Melanie and her team and have just started down the IVA route. Wanted to wish you all the luck in the world. Last weekend was the first time I have slept properly in months and I am feeling so positive. I know it is not going to be easy over the next 5 years if we g...

Even though I have a long way to go I think tonight will be the first night sleep I have had in 6 months!! Once again thanks to Tina an...

Thanks for all your comments - I started the day on a high after getting it all off my chest with my parents yesterday and knowing I should be alright with whatever choice I go with. I think my partner may have to go with a DMP. Still the decision will have to be up to him. I am currently in the mid...

Thanks. Really getting confused now. I will wait and see what they say tomorrow when Tina calls. I am not worried about mine now as my parents are helping but I'm not sure about partners as he is self employed and wages can't be pinned down to a set amount.

I understand that but how do they work out who should include what on their debts is it half each. My parents are helping me out so I wasnt sure if it would be better for me to take on the overdraft especially as he owes more than me.

That sounds good. Does anyone know what happens about joint overdraft arrears that need to be take into account. Me and my worse half are both having to get either DMP or IVA and not sure what will happen about the overdraft.

Hi can anyone give me any advice on payplan? I was wondering whether to go down the DMP route and they sounded quite good. I was wondering if they would be any good for my partner as well as he is self employed.

Got to admit I am a little worried about DMP as I have read that the interest is not always frozen and the late payment charges can still be added. Also that they can change their minds along the way and ask for more money or all the outstanding debt. Hooray for Parents, I hope if my children ever g...

Hi You would declare the cash each month as income but then declare the HP costs and motoring costs as expenses. Your parents could offer the 6K and this could be paid into your IVA at the start along with your monthly payments. You may end up repaying the whole debt within the five years so do exp...

I have just returned from my parents and they were fantastic when I told them the whole miserable tale. They are going to give me money for my car hp, tax, insurance and petrol so it will free up some disposable income. They have offered to pay off 6,000 of my debt as well but I'm not sure if this i...
