I only just found out (Professor emeritus) Michael Green died last year following a heart operation. He had a powerful mind, especially when it came to debtor/creditor fairness.

Surely this is a bit ridiculous of the company as they would not have given a mortgage without making a credit check. A mortgage company can't repossess a house without the judgment of the county court. You haven't missed a payment. Liase with your IP, the IVA helps the mortgage company by lowering ...

Savings accounts are offering very poor returns right now. Its obviously useful to have an emergency fund but after establishing that most of you lucky people with spare funds would do better overpaying on their mortgages for example

<climbing back on my hobby horse!>

In the short term you could put it in a community credit union - thereby earning you more than you would in a current account, contributing to your community and giving you access to (limited) credit (with free insurance).

Its not a little white lie to object to being contacted at work. Under s40 of the Administration of Justice Act 1970 its an offence to cause alarm, distress or humiliation (I'm paraphrasing) when collecting a debt. I have years of debt collecting experience at the dirty end of the business and some ...

I have a copy of a high street bank (not Barclays) terms and conditions in front of me and it suggests they can offset money paid to an insurance policy against a debt. I'm not convinced they would and I've never heard of it happening but it suggests they can. This doesn't mean they can take extra m...

There is a little help available with raising the deposit for bankruptcy. The court fee of £150 may be waived - you should speak to your local county court about that. Some utility companies have charitable trusts which will help with the rest and there are certain debt charities with funds available.
