Just to add that it is possible to get a Vanquis card with the IVA on file, and I can speak from personal experience. My IVA doesnt drop off my file until next year, but I have had a Vanquis card for over a year now. I need one for work expenses as they are too much to pay out of my own pocket, so I...

Hi Foggy, yes but if a Lender used Experian or Equifax then they wouldnt even see the mortgage is what I was getting at. Also if she stops paying, the Lender couldnt force me to pay surely? They could ask I suppose, but there is no way I would pay. To be harsh about it, I have got my own rented prop...

Sorry, just read that back, and I didnt make it clear that when I paid the deposit on the house, I agreed to put my name on the mortgage too, as she wouldnt have been able to get a mortgage in her own name at the time as she wasnt working.

OK so heres the thing. I separated from my ex wife 9 years ago, and when we split I agreed to pay the deposit on a house for her and the children to live in and I would rent as I wanted the children to have some stability - I never lived in the house, and she has always paid the mortgage herself fro...

Hi Sharon, Yeah, even if you have completed IVA it will stay on your file for 6 years. Mine was paid with a lump sum in 2009 so I havent made any payments for 5 years, but the IVA still shows on my file, and it will stay there until next year when I too will look to get a mortgage. You can try the e...

I've moved rented properties twice since I've been in an IVA, and trust me the best thing to do is just be upfront and explain your circumstances - it will only show up on the credit check anyway, so you may as well front it up. I met with my current landlord personally when I viewed the house, and ...

My IVA is due to drop off my credit file in February (I did a lump sum IVA in 2009), and I feel so close to getting my own house its making me really impatient and frustrated. The deposit is there, I can easily afford a mortgage, there are houses for sale that I really like and are affordable, yet I...

I am now in the final straight of getting my life back to normal - I did a lump sum IVA in Feb 2009, so I now have less than a year to go before it finally drops off my credit report, and I can look to get back on the housing ladder after 8 years of renting. I am now keen to get my credit file clean...

I used moneybarn a couple of years ago when a new arrival turned up and needed to change the car. Have to say they were first class, no messing about, everything done as it was supposed to, and transferred the money to the dealer with no fuss. I think they had a minimum loan size of £5000 and as lul...

Hi Ann Marie - who's IVA is it, yours or your husbands or joint? Whilst the pension is unvested I doubt creditors would be able to touch it as its written under a trust, but once it is in payment the pension payments he receives will be classed as income along with any state pension, and be included...

Can only echo what others have said - the challenge I faced was finding a bank that didnt have some connection to any of my creditors! [:(] However, Santander made it really easy - applied online, full bank account, online facilities, and they even gave me an overdraft facility of £3500 bizarrely wh...

Hi Sophie - do you have no close family members you could confide in who may be able to lend you the money to propose a lump sum IVA - depending on how much the creditors would get back over a 5 year period, proposing a lump sum they would receive up front may be preferable - i went down this route ...

Hi miak Monthly payments for insurance, mobile phones, direct debits etc all go in your favour, as does owning your own home, having a landline, being on the electoral roll - if you tick all of these boxes, it does boost your credit score. The downside is that the IVA and defaults will override all ...

In my experience the letting agents are keen to help - they want the property rented after all! In my case they negotiated with both the landlords I have rented with during my IVA and managed to arrive at a successful conclusion. As one previous poster has said, an IVA doesnt make you a bad tenant, ...
