Thanks everyone for your suggestions. Not sure what we'll do yet. Melanie - as usual this only came up earlier this evening so we haven't yet had a chance to speak to your team. That was a task on the list for Monday but in the meantime I'm going to speak anonymously to the agents to see if there's ...

Thanks for all your replies. Not quite sure what we can do now, understand fully that being guarator for a loan is the same as being part of a joint loan but as this is just to ensure rent will be paid thought maybe this would be different and it was only the credit check bothering me - didn't even ...

Unfortunately there isn't anyone who can do it instead, I really do not know what to do. We are already paying a hefty deposit which includes rent in advance and the kids have already arranged with the agents to pay their rent well in advance of it falling due when their loans are paid out 3 times a...

Son started at uni September 2010 and has been home for Christmas, due to go back tomorrow. Son knows nothing of our finances and I'd like to keep it that wa...

Thanks for the replies. I think I did know about the 15% reduction possibility but as I never even wanted to think about having to do that, promptly forgot it. We're going to sit down with calculator and paper in the next few days and work out exactly what the extra cost is, (as well as losing child...

Hi Just wondered if anyone out there has dealt with a child going to uni, living away from home and helping them while in an iva yourself? Son started at uni last month and as there are none close enough to where we live, he is living in halls. As yet, although he is trying, he hasn't been able to g...

Hi Son is (hopefully) off to uni later this year and is about to set up a student bank account. He has just told me that he's got an appointment next week to apply for the account but because it's at a bank we had an overdraft with that was included in our iva I'm worried that they won't let him hav...

We're with Melanie, I really hope it doesn't come to it but it is a distinct possibility. I'm just annoyed because it's something we can't control and don't want but may have no option.
Anyway, really well done to you finishing your iva - well done, you must be so happy!

Hi I know that you are allowed 2 payment breaks during the life of your iva but if you missed a payment (with permission) due to circumstances outside of your control but paid extra over the next few payments to cover what you didn't pay, would this still count as one of your 2 breaks? Or are they o...

I thought that was the case but they really put doubt in my mind and as it was coming from someone who should know, it really worried me.
Thanks for your replies, it just upset me the way I got spoken to.

Hi Is it ok in an IVA to put your contingency and any other bits you can scrape together into savings so you can use it when you run into problems? I thought it was but I've been told today that it's wrong and anything I manage to save should go back to my creditors and made to feel like I was a che...
