Your IP can reduce your payments by 15% without going to the creditors but if you can make them an offer and explain your reasoning they may accept. Private landlords are usually a better bet as they don't normally do credit checks. Get a letter from your current landlord confirming that your rent payments are always on time. Hopefully this will help.

I must admit that I did not tell anyone other than my adult children. It would have killed my parents as they never had any debt at all. It didn't bother me at all that we kept it to ourselves, however, as Nicola says, it is each to his own.
