The exact process will depend on which IVA firm you are with but you should remember that the obligation to look at equity in your property is technically yours. As Foggy says I'd be interested to understand the position regarding the sixth year. Was this agreed because you were unable to release eq...

Assuming that there's no interest in your Husband's property (hence Foggy's question) it's possible but a little complicated. Technically not all lenders insist that applications by married people are in joint names but many do. Ultimately anyone recommending a mortgage to your Husband would need to...

Technically speaking it won't put you into more debt as the debt in your IVA still exists - it is written off at the end once all of the conditions of the IVA have been met. In terms of the repayments, all lenders I am aware of will insist that the IVA is settled once completion of any new mortgage ...

We'd be happy to help of course. From that perspective, it may actually be worth looking at now. Sometimes there's a little bit of preparatory work to be done in anticipation and this also gives us the opportunity to identify a potential lender early.

The IVA should disappear from your credit file 6 years after it was first REGISTERED. This certainly opens up more options for you going forward, once that happens. Until then your options are likely to be limited but it's not impossible.

Hi Cowpie (like the name!). It's certainly possible. As mentioned already, it's certainly an easier job once the IVA is over 6 years old although there may still be other options before then. There's a bit of prep work to be done which a good Specialist Mortgage Adviser should be happy to help you w...

Hi Lem. The reality is that many lenders don't actually understand IVA's at all and some have an extremely archaic approach to lending to someone who has previously had one. You may be interested to know that clients (almost exclusively ex-IVA'ers) we have placed with one particular lender outperfor...

It's certainly likely to be more tricky but there's nothing in what you say so far which, in itself, makes it impossible.

Hi Lee, if you'd like to message me privately (you can do this by clicking on my profile in the 'experts' section on the left of this page) I can have a look into this as it applies to your individual circumstances and along the lines Foggy mentions.

If you aren't able to get this removed it may not be the end of the world in terms of obtaining a mortgage, given the nature and amount, but it would still be better if you can.

It's certainly possible and, although there might be a little less choice, if everything else stacks up ok you should be fine.
