My husband is in the Armed Forces and was requested to fill out a Security Clearance renewal form. He had to declare that he was in an IVA. Will this affect his clearance. Any advice would be much appreciated as he will be having sleepless nights about this.
I can answer this as I am ex-forces and was subject to a high level of vetting for the job I did. An SC clearance is very unlikely to be affected by an IVA, but it does need to be disclosed. Tell him not to worry - the IVA demostrates that he is dealing with his debts in a responsible manner.
i have to renew mine soon too, i was not in the iva when i was first SC cleared my last payment is due in October this year and it will be finished all the legal end that is by April 2012 i wll eclare it on the form but hopefully it won't presetn anissue.
I was SC cleared when i was in an IVA, they just give you an additional financial questionnaire to complete. As long as you tell the truth you'll be fine.
whe i oroginaklly did the SC i have now i was not in a iVA and eas coping with my debts after i got it, it became clear abotu 6 months later that i could no longer cope, so if asked will tell all., its almost over the ast payment due in in 1 weeks time then jsut the completetion legal wind down to do by APril 2012
My partner knows quite a lot about SC's and told me that it all depends on the level of SC required for the job. If an enhanced level SC is required it may be that the SC could be problematic due to debt. It all depends on the amount of debt, why it was incurred and how long that it had been going on without disclosure. Being granted an SC relies on the person requiring it to have a large number of ticks placed in the right boxes and includes obvious things like political, religious and family background. When it comes to finance the vetting officer needs to know that a person isn't reckless with their money, doesn't have a lifestyle which is incompatible with their income and doesn't have any likely hood that their integrity could be compromised by someone trying to influence them financially. In the real world debt free employees are few and far between and there are going to be some people (read the majority) who will have some level of debt. In this regard as long as the debts have been disclosed at the earliest point and that the person in debt is doing something responsibly to address it there shouldn't be too much of a problem, unless of course their work requires the very highest level of SC. Hope this helps a wee bit?
