I do not think that the Official Receiver allows Sky TV at all, however as you will be allowed to retain between 50% and 70% of your disposable income under bankruptcy proceedings you can fund your Sky TV out of that.

Isn't the OR's attitude to Sky going to have to change when analogue is switched off and all TV is digital? I know there's Freeview, but some areas can't have that as the signal isn't strong enough (I found this out from the aerial repair man on holiday last year as the cottage in Lyme Regis had a rubbish picture and the only way it could be improved was with Sky which sadly the owners wouldn't do!) so surely they will have to be allowed Sky?

Also, we've got Sky Broadband for £5 a month (we can't have the free one where we are!) and we've got Sky Talk as well - we pay £5 a month and all calls are free all day so we know what our phone bill will be as well. They also have an offer where you don't pay anything and phone calls are free at evening and weekends. This has helped us save money. It's possible to get TV, broadband and phone for £21 (plus BT line rental) and to me that's very good value.

That's interesting Skippy!

I can get this £26 deal too, and if I had the basic Sky package + my current BT Broadband I am paying £39 instead! £13 is £13 at the end of the day!

Anyway, I am stuck in a contract with BT broadband, and if I transferred to Sky I would get charged various cancellation charges.

Would the OR frown on me doing this as this would incur charges that would need to be written off in bankruptcy, but then this would improve my disposable income....?

When I do my expenditure for this year, what would you suggest is a sensible allowance for this?

The CCCS guidelines allow £10 per month for a single person, £20 for a married couple and on top of that £10 for each child. There are also allowances for Sports, Hobbies and Entertainmen, Medical Expenses, Meals at Work, Pets, Laundry and Dry Cleaning, Hairdressins, Newspapers, Childrens' Pocket Mobey and Charitable donations as well.

The Sky package is quite a good one if you go for all 3. Before we moved Dave was paying £38 for Sky, £27 for BT broadband and £11 for BT line rental (approximately) plus calls and now it's £48 (we've got Sky Sports) for Sky, broadband and phone calls plus BT line rental and any calls that aren't covered (0845 for example). Quite a big saving!

I don't know how the OR would look at you cancelling BT, that's one for Melanie!

melanie are ther any updated details regarding CCCS guidelines for allowances as Andy,s posting does not detail them all. Several of these allowances do not feature in my expenditure. I assume they come out of my overtime monies or Contingency Fund £50 per month.
