Hi there and welcoem to the forum

I definately allow smokers to have an allowance for cigarettes in my IVA proposals, and a reasonable amount is generally accepted by creditors - although you should use the IVA as the excuse to give up for health reasons!

Hi
Yes they will, it is unreasonable for creditors to expect you to stop smoking straight away.
They may ask you to cut down, a reasonable request given the circumstances

I didn't ask for a smoking allowance, although I do....maybe a prescription allowance would be better for when I give up via the smoking clinic.

Some companies do give a smoking allowance - some don't.

I am an ex-smoker myself and managed to give up quite easily by myself, but do know how difficult it can be to stop.

Smokey I too got a smoking allowance in my IVA but a drastic reduction in what I normally/did used to spend. Wife has me on ciggy rations now!

Cant wait for the day until I can ring my IP up and say its no longer required....this is my next challenge.....I can but hope!
I came into this world with nothing and still have most of it left!

No - but as you may be left with some disposable income in bankruptcy, your smoking expenditure could be covered out of this.

hi, my husband was told that he could not have an allownace for cigs, although he had gone from smoking 20 a day, down to buying baki instead, which cost him around £12 a week. so he went to the nurse and has now been smoke free for 9wks, but he does get an allowance for prescriptions which cover the cost, maybe SMOKEY you could try the nurse too, just think of the health benefits, but obviuosly we all have to make our own choice's, anyway goodluck and good health.

I could have done with a chocolate allowance [:)]

I wonder how many people have managed to give up smoking whilst in IVA's? Or do you think the stress of debt makes you want to smoke more?
