JoJO...these BMI charts were made something like the 1950s when our nutrition was so poor in post war years...its about time someone updated them...like you if i had a healthy BMI according to the charts i would weigh 7 stone and i would be takedn for a refugee...when i get to 12st i can wear a size 14....!!!!

I know they are ridiculous! My friend has a sister though who is obssessed with it apparently. 5 foot and weighs 7 stone and still thinks she needs to lose more! She took her to the doctors to try and prove to her she was going over the top and he apparently told her to eat a couple of choccie bars a week!! I would've thought 3 square meals a day would be a better idea!!

I'm a larger lady. All over definately not pregnant.I hate the new.The shots where they show someone's back side waddle down the street.I feel so ashamed for the person there.I also hate to meet someone for the first time when all I've had is telephone conversations.I always wonder did they guess I was a fat person...strange what we think?

The doctor told me it wasn't so much your BMI, it's where you store your fat that causes the problem.....carrying around the middle can contribute to type 2 diabetes....
It's nice to be back......

Well I am classed as morbidly obese, and am constantly aware of my weight. I have yo-yo dieted for years, lost it all and then put it back on again.

I am very concious of people staring at me (at least I think they are), it's my own fault as I love my food.

I know what you mean Cat - I hate seeing those shots on TV as well. I keep thinking that one of these days it will be me on there!

On a similar vein I was in Sainsbury's this lunch time and the lady behind me had a small head. I heard the lady behind her say 'I bet you have a problem buying a hat' I turned round and it was obvious that the first lady didn't know the rude one and didn't reply but gave her quite look.

I couldn't believe what I heard why do people think they can comment on other peoples appearance if it is different form the accepted norm.

Well Barb, it's a good job you can chose your friends[:D]
I am sure that people don't think we have feelings i caught some one once looking intently in my shopping trolley and I could almost hear her brain tick over with thoughts if she didn't buy that she wouldn't be fat.

I once asked in a shop that sold larger sizes if they had a top in a size 20 and the girl looking down her nose and saying quite loudly that that top did not go as far as a size 20[:(]

I remember a few years ago I went into River Island and asked for a pair of combats in a size 18. The skinny minnie behind the counter looked at me and told me to try mail order, as they don't stock THAT size in stores. I joined Slimming World and lost 2 stones, and I took great delight in going back to buy a size 14 from the same shop.

BMI isn't a good judge of weight at all - if you go by BMI the entire England Rugby Union team are morbidly obese as it doesn't differentiate between fat and muscle.

I don't know how much weight I put on while I was on holiday as I haven't had the courage to weigh myself yet! I'm going back to Slimming World tomorrow night, so wish me luck!

I've done well on it in the past, but I've got bored with it quite quickly. This time I'm going to buy a recipe book and try cooking some different things so hopefully I won't be bored! I'll report in tomorrow night after I've been!

Skippy, I know mine isn't muscle unfortunately - it's all fat!

Silly me, pressed the wrong key and posted before I had finished!

Barb, no one knows how hurtful it is when someone says something about weight unless it's happened to them.

I try and pre empt things at work now (not that they make hurtful comments to my face), by cracking jokes about my weight. They think I don't mind about it, but I do.

I'm fat too, but its caused by the medication I'm on. Drs said not to worry just exercise more ... go for long walks, run a little. and what are half of my meds for .... I have bad legs and feet which stop me walking more than 20 yards.[:D][:D][:D]
