Size5 - many thanks for your help earlier on - it's a huge weight has been lifted knowing that if an IVA is not accepted there is another way out other than going down the bankrupt route. I look forward to receiving the information.

Sorry to be such a pain - it's me again. As suggested I have tried opening an account with Co-op who have referred me, I have also tried opening an easy cash account with the Halifax who basically say there is a 7 day wait just to get to my application - it's not looking good is it? May be that's why Debt Free Direct opened the Card One Account. If I can't even get a current account open I don't stand much of a chance with anything!

Hi Simbel

It may seem difficult but you should be able to get an account. The Card One account is an option for our clients if they are struggling to find another account or if they would prefer to have a managed account.
I would be happy to look into why your information pack has not been sent out / emailed yet.

On behalf of DFD, I apologise for the inconvenience.

Thanks

Don't worry about being referred by the Co-op, this happens to a lot of people. Was it the Cashminder account that you applied for? If so, providing you are on the electoral register you shouldn't have a problem.

I wouldn't recommend paying for a bank account unless you really can't get one elsewhere.

Simbel well done for taking advice from a couple of companies and don't be frightened to go to another if you feel you still need further reassurance, in respect of the bank account don't worry it will be set up all these things just seem to take time.

All the best x

Try the Yorkshire Bank as well and I believe that Barclays do a basic bank account.

I'm sure that once the Co-op have looked at your application and that you are on the electoral roll, you will be ok.

I too am convinced that you should have no problem with the Co-Op account, very few are refused, although it does sometimes happen.

As long as the process has begun in earnest then that is the main thing, any further problems then you know where to come.

Hello, did as you suggested waiting on Co-Op, but also applied with Halifax and Bank of Scotland, apparently it will take more than 7 days before they even get to my application - Fingers crossed you are all right and the Co-Op will come through, suppose it's the waiting game now.

All the best for the new account, won't be long they'll probably come up trumps prior to the 7 days.

Hello everyone,
So by now you must all think I'm a complete and utter nutter - I've still no current account (although Halifax and Bank of Scotland have both said that it's going to take at least 7 days before I hear from them) I spoke to Co-Op today and my application is still referred, the lady there said its probably doing the credit checks - this is bad, although I have not defaulted yet, my husband has had three late payments on a card (due to MBNA not taking our instructions of DD when they should have back in August- in fact this is what triggered all of this which in a way is good because our heads are no longer buried in the sand). I applied on line for the Halifax and Bank of Scotland. Should i apply to HSBC for an account or will this have an adverse affect on my credit rating. Are HSBC part of any group which has anything to do with Natwest, MBNA, LloydsTSB, Santander, Egg or Barclays. I know I am probably being very impatient but at the moment I can't sleep, eat, think properly - I'm on valium just to stay on an even keel. I can't understand why before companies and banks were chucking credit/credit cheques at me and now it's so difficult to open a simple current account so may be I'm being a little paranoid thinking that may be they know what my situation. I have kept all our payments up to date so far.

Please help anyone - regards to you all, simbel

Also I have just read something which has scared me to the core - I'm actually shaking. GE Money is part of Santander - is this right? If this is the case GE Money are my mortgage providers - if we were actually accepted into an IVA, can GE Money foreclose on the mortgage. Please please can someone advise, I am beginning to feel really sick. Thank everyone.

Oh Simbel, sit down and take a deep breath, you poor thing! I'm sure an expert will be along soon.

I can't advise on mortgages at all but I had a Laura Ashley store card that was GE Money and they have changed to Santander now. Hasn't nearly everything?!

Best of luck, Nic x

Your mortgage is safe, as long as you keep it up to date you will be fine. It may pay in the short term to avoid any of the Santander group for an account, so Abbey, Bradford and Bingley and Alliance and Leicester are not much use.

Hope this helps.

Simbel you sound as though your up against it at the moment but you must stop panicking and worrying so much. Your situation, although it may not look like it to you, is totally normal for all of us and there are people on these boards who have been in your self same position. You will not do yourself any favours by stressing. Choose your IP, do as they ask and let them take the worry....they are really good at their job.

Hi Simbel

I am going through the process of an IVA and I opened a basic account with Barclays Bank. I had the option of a cash card or a Connect card and I opted for the Connect Card for day to day purchases. I also opened up a Savings Account with a cash card so I can put money aside for my car tax/mot etc. It was very easy to open in branch and I received my card within a week. Mind you with the post now you may wait a little longer. You can access your account online so it is very easy to manage. Good luck.
