Hello all

I have just found your site - looks great - very informative . Wish I had found it a few months back but hey ho - some second opinions wont go amiss

I have got my first telephone appontment witb CCCS Isolvency next week to discuss budget , creditors etc and see if they will reccomend an IVA for myself and my partner

My basic situation is 94K of unsecured debt ( ouch - I nearly fainted ) The biggest being Northern Rock for £30K - we did one of their 110% specials with a top up loan in 2007 to get the house - which is now 20% less than we paid for !!

I will have about £700 - £800 I reckon to offer creditors after outgoings etc - give or take - all still to be agreed .

any advice / questions gratefully accepted

Hi gord and welcome.

When CCCS speak to you, they will inform you of all the options open to you, DMP, IVA and Bankrutpcy and sort out the best one for you.

I recommend that you phone a couple of firms to ask advice, don't just take the first one. Visit www.iva.com for a list of reputable companies. Alternatively, there are several who post on here - Melanie Giles, Size5, Michael Peoples, to name but a few. Details of them all can be found under the experts link on the left hand side of the page. There are a couple of debt advisors you could phone as well - Andy Davie and VikiW.

The amount you have to offer sounds a decent amount, but you will have to be guided by what your chosen company says.

Hi,

Believe me you are in the best place for advice. Mine was agreed today and I had roughly 60k debt and I am paying 333 a month.

Just make sure you make a comprehensive list of EVERYTHING you have to pay out each month. Your IP will let you know if you are making excessive claims in terms of expenditure.

All the very best

thanks Jan and Scott

I have already had initial conversations on budgets etc and they have recomended an IVA - my convo next week is with the IP to go through in fine detail and look and see if they will take it on - scary times - but you know now that I have grasped the nettle it already seems a but better - very early days though - I have being doing a ton of research online - hence found this site - I dont want to overly complicate things by getting lots of but I am thinking that maybe I should talk at least to one other

youlle know when you speak with them be it the ip or their staff what kind of service you will get. theres no harm in talking to 3 or 4,just an initial chat doesnt mean youre committed to them after all an iva is normally a 5 year period and you want to feel happy and comfy with who you have chosen for that reason. good luck.

I would recommend that you do that gord. The advice is free and you are not commiting yourself to anything.

All advice is free and there is no harm in having a friendly chat with a number of different practitioners. Visit www.iva.com for reviews on several practitioners that post here. Then decide and go with one that you are comfortable with. Good luck and let us know how you get on.
