Stopping Telephone Calls

If i've informed all my creditors that I'm experiencing financial diffiulties and am seeking advice and also written to them again including a token payment do I need to answer phone calls? Can I let them all go to answer machine or even change my phone number or would this be seen as being obstructive and cause me more harm than good.

Hi Louise

There is no legal responsibility for you to continue to answer calls from your creditors if they have been informed of your circumstances and intentions.

Do continue to keep them well informed of your progress though, as you will require their co-operation if you are attempting to put forward a plan of repayment.

No, I don't think it would be seen as obstructive.

I think it's unlikely to be seen as anything in particular. The only thing that's likely to go on any record is whether they have been able to get some money or the promise of some money out of you.

Personally I would proceed exactly as you suggest and deal with your creditors in writing only.

The phone calls will stop. My creditors have all received my proposal now and I am only getting an odd one now. My meeting is on the 29th I had times when I turned the ringer off and dialled 1471 when I saw the light on when it was ringing. Nobody else in the house knew what i had done it was good fun watching them try to fix the phone because it would only light up and not ring.
